Cleaning the Coffeemaker Before First Use

Follow the steps under “Adding Water and Ground Coffee” and “Brewing Coffee Now,” (Pages 8-9) but do not add ground coffee.

Selecting and Measuring Ground Coffee

For best results, use coffee ground for use with automatic drip coffeemakers. The amounts shown below are suggested amounts.

• two level tablespoons = one level scoop

• one cup = five ounces brewed coffee

Adding Water and Ground Coffee

1) Swing open the brew basket so that it is extended out from the coffeemaker.

2) Place a MR. COFFEE® brand 8-12 cup #4 Cone Style paper filter or a MR. COFFEE® permanent filter in the removable filter basket.

3)Add the desired amount of ground coffee

to the filter. Gently shake the filter basket to level the ground coffee.

4) Be certain that the filter is centered in the filter basket and that the basket is properly snapped into place. Close the brew basket.

Do not brew coffee while the brew basket is open.

5)Open the reservoir lid and fill the reservoir with cold water to the desired cup level on the water window (up to 8 cups).

6)Place the empty thermal carafe on the base.

To achieve the best performance, rinse the thermal carafe with warm water. This will improve the heat retaining capabilities of the thermal carafe. While brewing, the Brew-Thru lid must be on the thermal carafe and the arrow on the lid must be aligned with the spout. Otherwise, the carafe may overflow.

Make sure the thermal carafe is squarely centered on the base or the water and grounds will overflow from the brew basket. An overflow may cause personal injury or damage to property.

Brewing Coffee Now

For Models ECT84 and ECT85:

Press the BREW NOW switch

The ON indicator will illuminate, indicating that the coffeemaker is on and the brew cycle will begin. When the coffee stops flowing, the brew cycle is complete.

The coffeemaker will turn off automatically. The indicator light will go out to let you know the brew cycle is complete.
