Mower Maintenance

General Recommendations

The warranty on this Trailmower does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from the warranty, operator must maintain unit as instructed in this manual.

Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your unit.

All adjustments in the service and adjustments section of this manual should be checked at least once each season.

Before Each Season

Replace the spark plug.

Clean or replace the air filter.

Check blades and belts for wear.

A new spark plug and clean air filter assure proper air-fuel mixture and help your engine run better and last longer.

Before Each Use

Check engine oil level. (Do this twice to ensure an accurate reading.)

Check blade operation.

Check for loose fasteners.

Daily Maintenance

Make sure all nuts and bolts are tight, cotter pins and retainer clips are secure. Keep blades sharp. Observe all safety precautions.

Blade Care and Service

For best results, mower blades must be kept sharp. The blades can be sharpened with a few strokes of a file or on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt to sharpen while on mower.

Caution:

Do not handle mower blades with bare hands. Careless or improper handling may result in serious injury.

To remove blade for sharpening, use wooden block to hold blade while removing the blade- mounting nut. The nuts have right hand threads.

When grinding, care should be taken to maintain blade balance and the blade should be checked for proper balance before reinstalling on mower.

Check and balance. File material off heavier end of blade until it is balanced.

To ensure satisfactory operation, it is recommended that before the start of each mowing season, the old blades be discarded and replaced with new blades.

NOTE: Check nuts and blades occasionally to make sure nuts are tight.

Caution:

Shut off mower and remove spark plug wire before making any adjustments to the mower.

Cleaning the Mower

Water pressure from a garden hose will remove fresh clippings from the underside of the mower. Clean mower after each use.

Repair Parts

Your Trailmower has been produced with components designed for your unit. Although standard V-belts, bearings, blades, pulleys, etc. may look like parts used on your rotary mower, and while similar in appearance, many are of a different construction and could in some cases cause a malfunction in the operation of the machine.

For continued satisfactory performance, use only repair parts supplied by the manufacturer. See your SWISHER dealer for replacment parts.
