Yourdetectionsystemisunlikelytoexperiencefalsealarms.Occasionallyyoursystemmayalarmandyourstaffmayfindthat
thepatrondoesnothaveunauthorizedlibrarymaterials.Falsealarmsmaybecausedbyactivestripsonitemscarriedinto
thelibrarysuchasbooksfromanotherlibrary.
Falsealarmsaregenerallyinfrequentandwillvarydependingonthepatronsandtheproximityofyourlibrarytofacilities
thatarereleasingitemscontainingsecuritystrips.Becauseitisnotpossibletodistinguishbetweenfalsealarmsandalarms
withpotentialitemloss,allresponsestoalarmsmustbeconsistentandfollowyourmanagementpolicies.Ifpatronsseeno
responsetoalarms,thesystembecomeslesseffective.Whenyoudecidethatasecuritystriponanitemfromoutsideyour
librarycausedanalarm,followthesesteps:
1.Explaintheproblemtothepatron.
2.Verifythatallofthepatron’slibrarymaterialsareproperlycheckedout.
3.Allowthepatrontoexitthelibrary.
Manypatronswilllearnfromtheexperienceandwillnotcarryitemsthatmaycausealarmsintothelibrary.
