Panel

Ports allow you to connect peripheral devices to your computer as you would with a desktop PC.

1 Display screen Also called LCD (liqui d-crystal display), dis plays
computer output.
2 Status indicators LEDs (light-emitting diodes) that turn on and off to
show the status of th e computer and its funct ions and
components.
3 Launch keys Buttons for launching frequ ently used programs. See
“Launch Keys” on page 14 for more details.
4 Touchpad Touch-sensitive pointing de vice which functions li ke a
computer mouse.
5 Click buttons (left, cent er and right) The left and right buttons function like the left and right
mouse buttons; the ce nter button serves as a s croll
up/down button.
6 Speaker/Headphone-out jack Connects to audio line-out devices (e.g., speakers,
headphones).
7 Line-in jack Accepts audio line-in devices (e.g., audio CD player,
stereo walkman).
8 Infrared port Interfaces with Infrared devices (e.g., infr ared printer,
IR-aware computers).
9 Microphone Inputs sounds and voices into your computer.
10 Palmrest Comfortable support area for your hands when you
use the computer.
