As the popularity of Internet connectivity via ADSL increases, the need for extended reach and higher speeds also continues to increase. For this reason, ADTRAN is now supporting ADSL2+ in the Total Access® 3000 DSLAM.

ADSL2+ provides the bandwidth needed to support video applications including HDTV.

The 16-Port ADSL2+ Access Module provides 16 individually configurable ports that support ADSL2+ as well as ADSL2, READSL (Reach ADSL), and ADSL. The ADSL2+ module also supports AnnexM which increases upstream bandwidth for more advanced home users or small business customers. Residing in two adjacent access module slots in the DSLAM, the 16-Port ADSL2+ module provides today’s most popular DSL technology.

Flexible and configurable, ADTRAN’s ADSL2+ module allows operators to configure upstream and downstream transmission rates, or the interfaces may be configured to adapt to the best possible rates available on the subscriber loop.

The ADSL2+ module co-exists in the DSLAM with ADTRAN’s ATM Cell Switch Module or Ethernet Switch Module. The Cell Switch

Module provides all ATM cell-switching func- tions in the DSLAM and allows the DSLAM to be connected to an ATM network via OC-3c or DS3 connections.

The Ethernet Switch Module provides VC to VLAN switching and allows the DSLAM to be directly connected into an Ethernet network via a GigE network connection.

Front panel LEDs include power/card status and loop status for each subscriber loop. The module supports craft interface management. More comprehensive management is available using the Total Access Element Management System (EMS) with SNMP.

The 16-Port ADSL2+ Module interfaces with the SCU for SNMP management. Both provi- sioning and alarm/LED status is supported.

All provisioning of the module is handled

through the SCU communication link. The unit retains provisioning data in a non-volatile memory device for recovery after a power loss, and supports optional autoprovisioning through the SCU.

ADSL2+ specifications

ADTRAN ADSL2+ is a robust and reliable technology designed to enhance broadband connectivity for both consumers and businesses. As a variation of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), ADSL2+ provides improved data transmission rates over traditional copper telephone lines, allowing service providers to deliver high-speed internet access more effectively.

One of the main features of ADSL2+ is its ability to support higher downstream data rates, reaching up to 24 Mbps. This significant increase empowers users to engage in bandwidth-intensive activities such as streaming high-definition video, online gaming, and large file downloads without noticeable lag. The enhanced upload speeds, while still asymmetrical in nature, can reach up to 1 Mbps, making it suitable for small to medium-sized businesses that require efficient data sharing.

ADTRAN ADSL2+ employs several advanced technologies to maximize performance. One such technology is the use of dynamic rate adaptation, which automatically adjusts the speed of the internet connection based on the quality of the line. This ensures optimal performance even in varying line conditions, resulting in a more stable and reliable connection for end-users.

Another notable characteristic of the ADTRAN ADSL2+ solution is its support for multiple service offerings over the same connection. With integrated voice services, users can simultaneously access voice and data services without degradation in quality. This versatility is essential for businesses that rely on unified communications and for households with multiple internet users.

In addition to speed and reliability, ADTRAN ADSL2+ is designed with features that simplify deployment and management. The technology supports remote management capabilities, enabling service providers to monitor performance and resolve issues without the need for on-site visits. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also improves the overall customer experience by minimizing downtime.

Moreover, ADTRAN ADSL2+ is compatible with various network architectures, allowing providers to easily integrate it into existing infrastructure. This flexibility is crucial for service providers looking to expand their offerings in a cost-effective manner while still delivering high-quality broadband services to their customers.

In conclusion, ADTRAN ADSL2+ stands out as a leading solution for broadband connectivity, offering impressive speed, reliability, and flexibility. With its advanced technologies and features, it provides a powerful tool for service providers aiming to deliver superior internet experiences to consumers and businesses alike.
