C214

Engineered Exellence built in Vienna, Austria.

AKG’s legendary C 414 needs no introduction – it is a tool found in most recording studios and has been used on thousands of hit records; it’s been on stage with artists of every musical genre and is also used by leading broadcast facilities the world over.

The new C 214 is designed as a cost-effective alternative to the high-end, industry-leading C 414 family. This new microphone uses the same 1- inch dual-capsule as the legendary C 414 in a single-diaphragm,cardioid-onlydesign. The result is a class-leading performance close to that of the famous C414 B-XLS.

The C 214 has AKG’s legendary large-diaphragm sound and is capable of incredible 143 dB dynamic range for uncompressed, life-like transients. The C 214’s edge-terminated capsule delivers a highly-detailed, up-front sound that brings out every nuance of any voice or instrument. Thanks to its switchable 20-dB attenuation pad and low cut filter, the C 214 can be used in sound fields as high as 156 dB SPL – so it can be used on stage for close-up miking for even very loud applications like drum overheads, guitar amps or high-output brass.

The C 214 features an integrated capsule suspension that reduces mechanical noise and resonances for even greater sonic accuracy.

The double mesh, all-metal grille protects the capsule and ensures high RF immunity without affecting acoustical performance. The C 214 has a roadworthy construction quality with a modern scratch-resistantfinish, a dent-resistant, metal grille and a gold-plated XLR-type output.

The C 214 comes complete with carrying case, windscreen, and spider-type shock mount.

C 214 specifications

The AKG Acoustics C 214 is a high-quality condenser microphone that has made a significant impact in both professional studio settings and live sound applications. Designed with precision and versatility in mind, the C 214 offers a compelling blend of performance and affordability, making it an excellent choice for musicians, vocalists, and audio engineers alike.

One of the standout features of the C 214 is its 1-inch diaphragm, which is designed to capture audio with remarkable clarity and detail. The diaphragm's large surface area allows it to pick up low-frequency sounds with exceptional warmth while maintaining transparency and definition in the high-frequency range. This makes the C 214 ideal for a wide variety of applications, from capturing powerful vocals and intricate acoustic instruments to overhead miking in a full band setting.

The C 214 employs a cardioid polar pattern, which enhances its ability to isolate the sound source while rejecting unwanted noise from the sides and rear. This characteristic is particularly valuable in live environments where stage noise can be a concern. The cardioid pattern ensures that the microphone picks up sound primarily from the front, resulting in a clean, focused sound that is free from unruly ambient interference.

Another notable technology featured in the C 214 is its large diaphragm design, which contributes to a fast transient response. This is crucial for accurately capturing the attack of instruments and the nuances of vocal performances. Additionally, the mic is built with a sturdy metal construction, ensuring durability and reliability even in the rigors of a touring setup.

The microphone also includes a low-cut filter switch that allows users to reduce low-frequency rumble or handling noise, making it an adaptable option for various recording environments. Furthermore, the C 214 has a maximum SPL rating of 156 dB, enabling it to handle loud sound sources without distortion—a vital characteristic for recording drums, brass, or even amplifiers.

In terms of frequency response, the C 214 covers a range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, ensuring it can capture a full spectrum of sounds. Its overall sound signature is detailed and smooth, making it suitable for vocal tracks, acoustic guitars, piano recordings, and more.

Overall, the AKG Acoustics C 214 stands out as a professional-grade microphone that combines cutting-edge technology with exceptional sound quality, making it an indispensable tool for anyone looking to achieve studio-level recordings. Its versatility, robust build quality, and superior audio performance make it a worthy investment for both novice and seasoned professionals in the audio industry.
