Chapter 5. The Firmware Upgrade Utility

Upgrade Failed

If a device fails to complete the upgrade successfully, start the firmware upgrade procedure again. If the KH2508 / KH2516 becomes inoperable after a failed firmware upgrade, follow the Firmware Upgrade Recovery procedure below.

Firmware Upgrade Recovery

If the firmware upgrade procedure is unnaturally aborted (due to a power outage, for example), the KH2508 / KH2516 that was being upgraded at the time may become inoperable, and may be incapable of accepting a normal firmware upgrade. If this occurs to the first level KH2508 / KH2516, do the following:

Note: To perform a firmware upgrade recovery on a cascaded KH2508 / KH2516, remove the switch from the installation before performing the following steps.

1.Prepare the Firmware Upgrade Package (see page 58).

2.Slide the unit's Firmware Upgrade Recovery Switch (see page 7) to the RECOVER position.

3.Perform a warm reset (see Reset Button, page 7). The switch is now ready to be upgraded.

Note: When the switch is in Firmware Upgrade Recovery Mode, the front panel console LEDs alternately flash on and off, and the port LEDs turn on and off, scrolling from left to right, first green then red.

4.Run the downloaded Firmware Upgrade Package file again.

5.When all devices have been upgraded, click Finish to close the Firmware Upgrade Utility.

6.Slide the unit's Firmware Upgrade Recovery Switch (see page 7), to the NORMAL position.

7.Reboot the upgraded KH2508 / KH2516 by turning it off, then on again.

Note: After upgrading a cascaded switch, turn off the switch, return it to the installation, reconnect all cabling and turn it on.
