OVERVIEW

Simplify your cabling layout and reduce the amount

of work required during workstation reconfiguration with BLACK BOX® CAT5e and CAT5 25-Pair Bulk Cables.

Zone cabling vs. traditional home run cabling.

Installing network cabling in a “home run” style configuration typically involves running an individual horizontal cable to each workstation. This configuration, however, can be a problem when it’s time to perform moves, adds, and changes (MACs). An entire length of cable may have to be rerouted, a process that’s often both time- consuming and expensive.

Our 25-pair cables are specially designed for use for zone cabling. In a zone configuration, patch cables from individual workstations are fed into a multiuser telecommunications outlet or a consolidation point. From this point, a single horizontal CAT5e or CAT5 25-Pair Cable carries voice or data the rest of the way. Not only do you need fewer cable pulls, but there’s also less cable to mess with during MACs.

In addition to zone cabling applications, you can use these cables for copper backbone and interconnect applications.

Verified performance!

Many high-pair-count designs offer cabling plant convenience but frequently lack the speed and bandwidth performance of their 4-pair cousins—not so with our CAT5e and CAT5 25-Pair Bulk Cables. With these cables, you get independently verified EIA/TIA performance to handle the increasing demands of today’s ever-faster applications. Plus, they offer a small diameter and flexible construction.

Why Buy From Black Box? Exceptional Value. Exceptional Tech Support. Period.

Recognize any of these situations?

You wait more than 30 minutes to get through to a vendor’s tech support.

The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you the wrong answer.

You don’t have a purchase order number and the tech refuses to help you.

It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s tech support line is closed.

According to a survey by Data Communications magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say that getting the technical support they need is extremely important when choosing a vendor. But even though network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their overall purchase price for a basic service and support contract, the technical support and service they receive falls far short of their expectations—and certainly isn’t worth what they paid.

At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the

best support. You can even consult our Technical Support Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just the right component for your application.

Don’t waste time and money—call Black Box today.

CAT5 specifications

Black Box CAT5 is a vital component in the realm of networking, serving as an essential category of twisted pair cable that facilitates high-speed data transmission. Recognized for its reliability and performance, CAT5 (Category 5) cable has traditionally been the backbone of local area networks (LANs) and data centers. While newer standards like CAT5e and CAT6 have emerged, CAT5 still plays a significant role, particularly in less demanding applications.

One of the most prominent features of Black Box CAT5 cabling is its ability to support data rates of up to 100 Mbps over distances of 100 meters. This makes it suitable for standard Ethernet applications, including 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX networks. The cable consists of four pairs of twisted copper wires, which are crucial for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk between the pairs.

Black Box CAT5 cables are designed to meet the TIA/EIA 568-B standard, ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and devices. This standardization simplifies installation and ensures that network performance remains consistent across different environments. The cables often come in various configurations, such as unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and shielded twisted pair (STP), giving users options based on their specific deployment needs.

The materials used in Black Box CAT5 cables also contribute to their durability and performance. They typically feature high-quality PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation and sturdy jackets that withstand wear and tear during installation. Some variants come with plenum-rated jackets, making them suitable for installation in air handling spaces without posing a fire hazard.

In recognition of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, Black Box has made strides in minimizing the environmental impact of its products. The manufacturing processes aim to reduce waste and utilize recyclable materials where possible, aligning with global efforts toward sustainability in technology.

Ultimately, Black Box CAT5 cables represent a mature, robust solution for various networking needs. While newer technologies may offer increased speed and bandwidth, the proven performance, ease of installation, and cost-effectiveness of CAT5 make it a relevant choice for many applications, ensuring that reliable communication remains at the forefront of networking infrastructure. Whether for a small office or an extensive enterprise network, Black Box CAT5 cables deliver dependable connectivity with the features and efficiencies that users expect.
