OPERATINGYOUR UNIT
Theoperationof your heat pumpsystem is controlledby theindoor
thermostat.You simply adjust the thermostat and it maintains the in-
doortemperature at the levelyou select.Most thermostats of heat
pump systems have3 controls:a temperature controlselector, a
FANcontrol,anda SYSTEM or MODE control. Referto your ther-
mostatowner’smanual for more information.
Tobetterprotect your investmentand to eliminateunnecessary ser-
vicecalls, fam iliarize yourselfwith the followingfacts:
1. During heating, increasing the desired temp eraturesettin g
morethan 2°F(1.1°C)maycause the supplemental heaters
to be turned on for a short period of time to satisfy the
demand. Needlessuse of the supplementary heat reduces
potentialenergysavings.
2. Ice or frost tends to form on the coil during winter heatin g
operation.Your unit is designedto automatically meltthe
ice.When inthisdefrostcycle, it is normal for steam or
fogto rise fromthe outdoor unit, and for water to drain
fromthe outside of unit.Do notbealarmed!
Tostart the unit:
1. Turn on the electricalpowersupply to unit.
2. Set MODE contro lto d esired mode and selecttem perature.
Toshut off unit:
Note:If the unit is b eing shut down becau se of a malfunction, call
yourdealer as soon as possible.
1. Set system MODE controlto OFF.
2. Turn offthe electricalpower supply to unit.
CoolingMode
Withthe SYSTEM or MODE control setto COOL, your unit will
runin cooling mode untilthe indoor temperatureis lowered to the
levelyou have selected.On extremely hot days,your unit will run
forlonger periods at a timeand have shorter “off”periods than on
moderatedays.
HeatingMode
Withthe SYSTEM or MODE control set to HEAT,your unitwill
runin heatingmode until the roomtemperatureis raisedto the level
youhave selected.Of course, your unit will run forlonger periods
tomaintain a comfortableenvironment on cooler daysand nights
thanon moderate ones.
SupplementalHeat
Yourunitis your primary heatingsource. Yoursystem may also be
equippedwith a supplementalheating sourcesuch as electricheat.
Oncold daysand nights, yoursystem willautomaticallyturn on the
supplementalheat,asneeded, in orderto maintain thelevel of com-
fortyou have selected.
Whenyour heat pump needsadditional heat to keep you comfort-
able your thermostat will turn on the supplemental heat (if
equipped).
DefrostMode
Whenyourunit is providingheat to yourhome or officeand theout-
doortemperaturedropsbelow 45°F(7.2°C),moisturemaybegin to
freezeon the surfaceo fth ecoil. If allowed to build up ,this ice would
