Setting the Shutter Speed

You can set the shutter to the speed at which you want to shoot. The camera will set the appropriate aperture value for the shutter speed you set.

M stands for “Time value”.

Enter Mmode.

∆Follow Steps 1 – 2 on p. 54 to choose M.

Make the setting.

∆Turn the –dial to set the shutter speed.

Shoot.

•2" indicates 2 seconds, 0"3 indicates 0.3 second and 1/160 indicates 1/160 second.

•When the flash fires, the camera may automatically reset the shutter to a speed slower than shutter speed you chose.

•The ISO speed will be locked at when you choose a shutter speed of 1.3 seconds or slower.

•Depending on the zoom position, some shutter speeds may not be available.

•When shutter speeds of 1.3 seconds or slower are used, images are

processed to eliminate noise after being taken. A certain amount of processing time may be needed before you can take the next shot.

•You should set the [IS Mode] to [Off] when lowering the shutter speed and shoot with a tripod (p. 151).

What if the aperture value appears in orange?

If the aperture value appears in orange when the shutter button is pressed halfway, the scene has exceeded the correct exposure limits. Adjust the shutter speed until the aperture value appears in white. Safety shift can also be used (p. 91).
