Pleasetakecarewheninstallingthe
stovethattherequirementsofthe
HealthandSafetyatWorkAct1974
aremet.
Sometypesoffirecementarecaustic
andshouldnotbeallowedtocome
intocontactwiththeskin.Incaseof
contactwashwithplentyofwater.
Ifthereisapossibilityofdisturbing
anyasbestosinthecourseof
installationthenpleaseuseappropriate
protectiveequipment.
Theremustnotbeanextractorfan
fittedinthesameroomasthestoveas
thiscancausetheappliancetoemit
fumesintotheroom.
Theremustbeanadequateairsupply
intotheroominwhichtheapplianceis
installedtotallingatleast100square
cm.(16squareinches)toprovide
combustionair.Thisisparticularly
necessaryiftheroomisdoubleglazed.
Donotlightthefirebeforetheboiler
hasbeenconnectedtothesystemand
filledwithwater,asthiscancause
seriousdamagetotheboiler.
Inadditiontotheseinstructionsthe
requirementsofBS.8303andBS.6461
Pt1&2;1984mustbefulfilled.Local
AuthorityBylawsandBuilding
Regulationsregardingtheinstallation
ofSolidFuelburningappliances,flues
andchimneysmustalsobeobserved.
TheoutputoftheCountry15Bis13.0
kW(44,400Btu/h)towaterand2.5
kW(8,500Btu/h)totheroom.The
outputswereobtainedburning
smokelessfueloverafourhourlyre-
fuellingcyclewiththedoorsclosed.
Theheatoutputtotheroomisdirectly
proportionaltotheheatoutputto
waterasshowninFig.4.Thismeans
thatifthewaterheatingloadisless
thantheratedoutputthentheroom
heatingwillbereducedbythesame
proportion.Thismustbebornein
mindwhencalculatingtheheating
requirements.

CHIMNEY

Inorderfortheappliancetoperform
satisfactorilythechimneyheightmust
notbelessthan4metresmeasured
verticallyfromtheoutletofthestove
tothetopofthechimney.Theinternal
dimensionsofthechimneyshould
preferablybe175mm(7inches)or
200mm(8inches)eithersquareor
roundandMUSTNOTBELESS
THAN150mm(6INCHES).
Ifanexistingchimneyistobeusedit
mustbesweptandchecked,itmustbe
ingoodcondition,freefromcracks
andblockages,andshouldnothavean
excessivecrosssectionalarea(e.g.
greaterthan250mmx250mm).Ifyou
findthatthechimneyisinpoor
conditionthenexpertadviceshouldbe
soughtregardingthenecessityof
havingthechimneylined.Ifitis
foundnecessarytolinethechimney
thenaliningsuitableforSolidFuel
mustbeused.
Ifthereisnoexistingchimneythena
prefabricatedblockchimneyoratwin
walledinsulatedstainlesssteelflueto
BS.4543canbeusedeitherinternally
orexternally.Thesechimneysmustbe
fittedinaccordancewiththe
manufacturersinstructionsand
BuildingRegulations.
Singlewallfluepipeissuitablefor
connectingthestovetothechimney
butisnotsuitableforusingforthe
completechimney.
Ifitisfoundthatthereisexcessive
drawinthechimneythenadraught
stabilizershouldbefitted.
Itisimportantthatthereissufficient
drawinthechimneyandthatthe
chimneydoesnotsufferfromdown-
draught.Whenthechimneyiswarm
thedrawshouldbenotlessthan2.54
mm(0.10inches)watergauge.Ifin
doubtaboutthechimneyseekexpert
advice.
Thestovemuststandonafireproof
hearthandmustbesituatedatleast
300mm(12inches)fromany
combustiblematerial.Thepositioning
ofthestoveandthesizeofthehearth
aregovernedbybuildingregulations
forClass1appliances.These building
regulationsstatethatthehearthmust
extendinfrontofthestovebyatleast
300mm(12inches)andtothesidesof
thestovebyatleast150mm(6
inches).Ifindoubtastothe
positioningofthestoveexpertadvice
shouldbesoughteitherfromthe
supplierorthelocalbuilding
inspector.
Thefireplacemustallowgood
circulationofairaroundtheappliance
toensurethatmaximumheatis
transferredtotheroomandalsoto
preventthefireplacefrom
overheating.Agapof150mm(6
inches)eachsideand300mm(12
inches)abovetheapplianceshould
givesufficientaircirculation.Ifa
woodenmantelpieceorbeamisused
inthefireplaceitshouldbea
minimumof460mm(18inches),and
preferably600mm(24inches)from
theappliance.Insomesituationsit
maybenecessarytoshieldthebeam
ormantelpiecetoprotectit.
Thecentralheatingsystemmust
complywithBS:5449part1.
Ifthesystemistobeacombined
heatinganddomestichotwatersystem
thenadoublefeedindirecthotwater
storagecylindertoBS:1556part1
shouldbeused.Inordertopreventthe
buildupofscaleandcorrosiona
