Replacing a Port Adapter or Service Adapter

Step3 Grasp the handle on the port or service adapter and carefully pull t he adap te r f rom th e m idp la ne, ab out
half way out of its slot. If you are removing a blank adapter or a service adapter, pull the blank or service
adapter all the way out of the chassis slot and continue from Step 6.
Note As you pull a port adapter from the midplane, OIR administ rat ively shuts down al l ac tive
interfaces on the port adapter (service adapters do not have interfaces). For a complete
description of OIR, refer to the section Online Insertion and Removal section on page1-26 in
Chapter 1, Product Overview.
Step4 With the port adapter half way out of the slot, disconnect all cables from the port adapter. (This step does
not apply to service adapters.)
Step5 After disconnecting the cables, pull the port adapter from its chassis slot.
Caution Always handle the port or service adapter by the carrier edges and handle; never touch the adapters
components or connector pins. (Refer to Figure 6-2.)
