Rack-Mount and Cable-Management Kit
The rack-mount and cable-management kit for the Cisco 7204 consists of rack-mount and
cable-management brackets that are designed for mountin g y our r out er in 1 9-i nch, 4 -po st or 2 -po st
equipment racks and for relieving strain on port adapter interface cables that are installed on port
adapters in the router. The kit is shipped with each Cisco7204 and is also available as a single FRU.
For detailed instructions about how to install the rack-mount and cable-management brackets on your
Cisco 7204, refer to the “Rack-Mounting the Cisco7204” secti on on pa ge 3-1” and the “General
Installation” section on page 3-9” in Chapter3, “Installing the Cisco 7204.”
Functional Overview
This section provides a functional overview of the Cisco 7204. It describes the numbering and
addressing of the port adapters for the router, the environmental monitoring and reporting functi ons, and
online insertion and removal (OIR). These descriptions will help you become familiar with the
capabilities of the Cisco7204 router.
Port Adapter Slot and Logical Interface Numbering
In the Cisco 7204, the port adapter slot number is the chassis slot in which a port or service adapter is
installed, while the logical interface number is the physi cal loca ti on of t he i nte rfa ce p ort on a po rt
adapter (service adapters do not have interface ports). Port adapter slots are numbere d from 1 through 4;
port adapter slot 0 is reserved for the optional Fast Ethernet port on the I/O controller—if present. (Refer
to Figure 1-2 for the numbering scheme of the port adapter slots.) The number of logical interfaces
depends on the type of port adapter.
