S TANDARD F EATURES

To further enhance the functionality of your Compaq UPS, Compaq offers two option cards: the Multi- Server UPS Card and the Scalable UPS Card.

Multi-Server UPS Card

The Multi-Server UPS Card seamlessly integrates into your Compaq UPS through an option slot available on the back of your Compaq UPS. The Multi-Server UPS Card facilitates direct communication with your critical servers (up to three servers) via individual serial communication ports, preventing the need to purchase additional UPSs to support each server

The Compaq Multi-Server UPS Card is intelligently managed through Compaq Power Management Software (supported on versions 1.0 and above). With the Compaq Multi-Server UPS Card, each load segment functions as a separate UPS with individual shutdown schedules and load segment configurations. In addition, the Compaq Multi-Server UPS Card enables system administrators the flexibility to manage multiple platforms with one Compaq UPS. If the network is down, the Compaq Multi-Server UPS Card can still conduct prioritized shutdowns.

Scalable UPS Card

The Scalable UPS Card, also available through the option slot on the back of your Compaq UPS, enables multiple UPSs to work together as one virtual UPS, providing scalability and field upgradability. The Scalable UPS Card protects the valuable hardware investments customers make as their power protection needs grow. As customers deploy new server hardware inevitably the power protection and management requirements increase. Typically, adding new UPSs also means adding complexity in managing the shutdown, startup, and protection requirements. The Scalable UPS Card ties up to three single phase Compaq UPSs together, creating a “virtual” two or three phase large UPS for the management application. The user is presented with the ability to manage this virtual UPS from a single management screen, instead of being forced to manage several UPS’s connected to several servers. When users combine the functionality of the new UPSs with the Scalable UPS Card, the management application can offer control of up to 9 load segments (when used with the R3000 UPS). The Scalable UPS Option Card is fully supported under Compaq Power Management Software version 1.0 and above.

21367 specifications

The Compaq 21367 is a notable network interface card that was introduced during the evolution of computing technology in the 1990s. Designed primarily for desktop computers, this Ethernet card supports a range of essential features that were cutting edge at the time, catering to both home and business users seeking reliable network connectivity.

One of the standout characteristics of the Compaq 21367 is its adherence to the IEEE 802.3 standard, making it compatible with 10BASE-T Ethernet networks. This compliance ensured that users could integrate the card seamlessly into existing network infrastructures, enabling efficient communication and data transfer across connected devices. The card operates at speeds up to 10 Mbps, which, while modest by today’s standards, was effective for the networking needs of its time.

The Compaq 21367 comes equipped with an RJ-45 connector, allowing for easy connection to standard Ethernet cables. This feature facilitated straightforward setups, as users could connect to local area networks (LANs) without the need for specialized hardware. The inclusion of on-board diagnostics provided users with valuable feedback and status indicators, helping identify connectivity issues quickly.

Another important aspect of the Compaq 21367 is its support for various operating systems, providing users with flexibility in terms of software environments. Whether running DOS, Windows, or various flavors of Unix, the card’s drivers allowed for broad compatibility, making it appealing for diverse user bases.

In terms of technology, the Compaq 21367 utilizes a Bus-mastering architecture, which significantly enhances its data-handling capabilities. This design approach allows the card to manage memory and I/O operations more efficiently, reducing CPU overhead and improving overall system performance. As a result, it delivers more reliable data transmission, which is critical for tasks such as file sharing and online communications.

Additionally, the compact form factor of the card makes it suitable for various system builds, further enhancing its attractiveness to users who may prefer customized configurations. By combining these features, the Compaq 21367 stands as a notable benchmark in the evolution of network interface cards, showcasing the technological advancements that emerged during the onset of the Internet era. Overall, its blend of functionality, compatibility, and efficiency made it a valuable asset in the landscape of computing during its time.
