VERY IMPORTANT: SETTING CHANNEL BALANCE AND BASS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Dolby Digital and Dolby ProLogic systems and decoders have a critical channel balancing procedure for the left and right front speakers, center channel, rears and subwoofer (if it is hooked up through the LFE or Sub Out low level connection) which must be followed if the system is to perform properly. We have spoken with many system users with problems relating to the overall

sound of their system which could be clearly traced back to improper system balance.

Also note that Dolby Digital decoders have bass management systems (systems which direct the bass to the various channels) which vary from unit to unit. This bass management system must also be properly adjusted. If your StudioMonitor is hooked up with speaker level wires and you are using a separate a subwoofer, your receiver or decoder’s bass management system should be set for “Small” left and right main speakers and “Yes” subwoofer. If you have a PowerMonitor, C/L/R 2300, C/L/R 2500, or C/L/R 3000 center channel, you will usually set your decoder’s bass management center channel setting to “Large” (however, don’t be afraid to experiment). If not, set it to “Small.” If you are using rear surround speakers with very extended low frequency response set the rear channels of your decoder’s bass management system to “Large.” If not, set them to “Small.” If you are using StudioMonitors without a separate subwoofer, set bass manage- ment to “Large” left and right main speakers and “No” subwoofer. (Also, do not be afraid to experiment.) Remember, whatever sounds best to you is correct.

450, 350, Studio Monitor specifications

Definitive Technology, a renowned name in high-performance audio, has made significant waves in the studio monitor arena with its Studio Monitor 450 and 350 models. These speakers are designed for both professional and home studio environments, ensuring accuracy and clarity in sound reproduction that is critical for music production, mixing, and mastering.

The Studio Monitor 450 is a robust speaker featuring a 6.5-inch bass driver paired with a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter. This combination delivers a powerful low-end response with articulate highs, allowing producers to hear every detail of their mix. The speaker incorporates Definitive Technology's proprietary BDSS (Balanced Double Surround System) technology, which enhances the speaker's performance by improving linearity and extending frequency response. The result is a rich, immersive sound stage that captures the nuances of various audio elements.

On the other hand, the Studio Monitor 350 is a slightly more compact option, featuring a 5.25-inch bass driver and similar 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter configuration. Ideal for smaller studio spaces, the 350 still manages to deliver an impressive sound profile, ensuring that it doesn't fall short in clarity or bass response. Both models feature a rear-firing bass port, which aids in extending low-frequency output without compromising on quality.

One of the standout characteristics of these studio monitors is their elegant design. With a sleek, modern aesthetic, both models fit seamlessly into any studio environment. The build quality showcases Definitive Technology's commitment to excellence, with a sturdy cabinet construction that minimizes unwanted resonance and distortion.

The Studio Monitor series is designed for versatility, offering dual binding posts for bi-wiring or bi-amping configurations. This feature allows audiophiles to customize their setup, optimizing the performance according to their specific needs.

Overall, the Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 450 and 350 models exemplify a perfect balance of performance, design, and technology. Their advanced features and precise sound reproduction make them an exceptional choice for audio professionals and enthusiasts alike, ensuring that any mix achieved is true to the artist's original intention.
