DESCRIPTION: Edelbrock Air Cleaner Assemblies - Due to the many different applications of the Edelbrock air filters, some modifications maybe required.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Install suitable air horn gasket and carburetor stud (not supplied) on carburetor(s) and place air cleaner base over carburetor.

2.For single carb models with dual carb tops, thread the special bracket on the carb stud until the two studs protrude through the top of the air cleaner by about 1/2". Bracket must be positioned to clear carburetor choke linkage and choke plate.

3.Install filter and air cleaner lid, checking for clearance between the carb stud and lid. Trim carb stud, if necessary. For carburetors with tall bowl vent tubes, it may be necessary to purchase Edelbrock air cleaner spacer #8092. Vent tube to air cleaner clearance should be no less than 1/8".

Note: To prevent possible hood damage, check for proper hood clearance using clay cones as seen in Figure #1. Don’t shut the hood without checking clearance first!

CRANKCASE VENTILATION:

Note: Some air cleaner kits include the crankcase ventilation adapter, that mounts to the lower side of the air cleaner per the recess seen in Figure #2 (Crankcase ventilation adapter #1205). Other kits may not be applicable.

1.If you wish to use the crankcase ventilation hose fitting, drill two ¼" bolt holes (A) in the recessed area at the rear of the air cleaner base, then drill a few ¼" holes (B) in the larger recess window to allow the fitting to breath (See Figure #2). Bolt the fitting to the base with the ¼" nuts, bolts, and washers. Be sure to de-burr drilled holes.

2. Check for clearance between linkage and ventilation hose and rotate base as necessary.

MAINTENANCE:

Some air cleaner assemblies have a pre-oiled gauze element, that can be cleaned and re-oiled as needed to improve its air flow. Simply wash the element in hot soapy water and allow to dry, then apply a light aerosol oil. Replacement pre-oiled gauze elements (Edelbrock #1220) are available through your dealer. Replacement knurled nuts for Elite Series Oval Air Cleaners are available as Edelbrock #4219. The gauze elements are dark in color when shipped and the paper elements are white in color. Do not attempt to wash the paper type elements.

PLEASE complete and mail your warranty card. Be sure to write the model number of this product in the "Part #____" space. THANK

YOU.

4220 specifications

The Edelbrock 4220 is a well-respected performance intake manifold designed for small-block Chevrolet engines, particularly the popular 350 cubic inch variant. Renowned for its blend of innovative technology and classic performance design, the 4220 caters to car enthusiasts seeking improved horsepower and torque characteristics.

One of the main features of the Edelbrock 4220 is its dual-plane design, which allows for better air-fuel mixing and distribution to the engine cylinders. This design feature is critical in optimizing throttle response and overall performance, particularly in street and mild performance applications. The intake manifold supports a wide range of operating conditions, providing flexibility for both daily driving and spirited performance.

The material used in the construction of the 4220 is aluminum, which offers a lightweight characteristic compared to cast iron options. This not only reduces the overall weight of the engine bay but also enhances thermal conductivity, helping to keep engine temperatures in check during high-performance driving. The aluminum construction is complemented by a precision-engineered finish, featuring a natural or polished surface that not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also resists corrosion.

The Edelbrock 4220 also boasts a unique design that enhances its compatibility with performance accessories. With provisions for both standard and aftermarket throttle linkage, it accommodates a variety of performance carburetors, making it an attractive choice for tuners looking to optimize their setups. Furthermore, the 4220 supports power adders, such as nitrous systems, further expanding its capability.

Another characteristic of the 4220 is its ability to improve torque output in the lower to mid-range RPM band. This makes it an excellent choice for drivers who prioritize acceleration and responsiveness, especially in street applications. Additionally, the manifold is engineered to work effectively with factory-style cylinder heads, making it a seamless upgrade for many enthusiasts.

Overall, the Edelbrock 4220 stands out in the automotive aftermarket for its combination of high-quality construction, innovative design, and versatile performance characteristics. Whether for weekend warriors or daily drivers, this intake manifold provides a reliable pathway to improved engine performance, enhancing both driving pleasure and vehicle capability.
