Installation

The Extron IPA T IPA In-Circuit Power Adapter (IPA) is an IPL™ Accessory product in the IP Tools series. Power for network devices is not always available or nearby. The IPA supplies Power over Ethernet (PoE) and is IEEE 802.3af compliant. PoE allows power to be supplied to network devices using the existing Ethernet cable. The IPA has the added flexibility of being able to first detect whether a device on the network has PoE capability before supplying power. This detection feature prevents damage to network devices that are not compliant with the current IEEE 802.3af standard for PoE.

2LAN input — This female RJ-45 connector links the In- Circuit Power Adapter either directly to the Ethernet LAN or through a network switcher, hub, or router. Use a straight-through cable when connecting to a switcher, hub, or router.

3Power over Ethernet indicator — The LED lights green if the connected network device is IEEE 802.3af compliant.

If +12VDC is already being supplied to the IPL T device, the IPA T IPA’s powered LAN output port will not supply power until the +12VDC is removed. Under this
