ENGINE WILL NOT START

LOSS OF POWER

Possible Cause Correction
Fuel valve is OFF Turn the fuel valve ON (page8)
Throttle lever is in the wrong position Move the throttle lever to the CHOKE
position, unless the engine is warm

Out of fuel Refuel (page 35)
Bad fuel; mower was stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad gasoline Drain the fuel tank and carburetor (page 39)
Refuel with fresh gasoline (page 35)
Spark plug is faulty, fouled, or improperly
gapped Gap or replace the spark plug (page 32)
Spark plug is wet with fuel (flooded engine) Dry and reinstall the spark plug. Start the
engine with throttle lever in the FAST
position.
Fuel filter is clogged, carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction, valves stuck, etc. Take the mower to an authorized Honda
servicing dealer for repair

Throttle is not set to FAST Move the throttle to FAST (page16)
Grass is too tall to cut Raise the cutting height (page 10), cut a
narrower swath (page 20), use a slower
ground speed, or cut more frequently
Mower deck is clogged Clean out themower deck
Air filter is clogged Clean or replace the air filter (page 31)
Bad fuel; mower stored without treating or
