SECTION 1 6ENERAL INFORMATION

l-l. INTRODUCTION

The HP 8673G Operating Manual contains all the information required to install, operate, and test

the Hewlett-Packard Model 8673G Synthesized Signal Generator. Figure 1-l shows an HP 86736

Signal Generator with all ofits externally supplied accessories.

The HP 8673G Operating Manual has four sections:

Section 1, General Information Section 2, Installation Section 3, Operation Section 4, Performance Tests

The HP 86736 Service Manual, which is shipped with the instrument as Option 915 or ordered separately, has four sections:

Section 5, Adjustments Section 6, Replaceable Parts Section 7, Manual Changes Section 8, Service

1-2. SPECIFICATIONS

Instrument specifications are listed in Table 1-l. These specifications are the performance, standards or limits against which the instrument may be tested. Supplemental characteristics are listed in Table l-2. Supplemental characteristics are not warranted specifications, but are typical characteristics included a8 additional information for the user.

l-3. SAFETY CONSIDERAIIONS

This product is a Safety Class I instrument, that is, one provided with a protective earth terminal. The Signal Generator and all related documentation should be reviewed for familiarization with safety markings and instructions before opera- tion. Refer to the Safety Considerations page found at the beginning of this manual for a summary of the safety information. The HP 8673GSynthesizZl Signal Genwator h a frequency range of 2.0 to 26.0 GHz (1.95

26.5GHz overrange). The output is leveled a calibrated from 1-8dBm to -100 dBm, depend on the frequency and options. For addition

Long-term frequency stability is dependenton t time base,either an internal or external refere oscillator. The internal crystal referenceoscillat operates at 10 MHz while an external oscillat may operate at 5 or 10 MHz. 1-7. Electrical Options

Option 004. The Signal Generator’s RF OUTPU connector is located on the rear panel. Maximu output power is listed in Table I-1.

Option 008. Option 008 provides +8 dBm leve output power from 2.0to 26.0GHz.
