Manual shooting mode M

Set to the Manual shooting mode.

The light sensitivity can be electrically boosted using the GAIN switch when there is insufficient illumination on the subject. (3 positions)

GAIN Switch

0 dB (No boosting is applied.)

 

 

M

9 dB (Boosts sensitivity by about 3 times.)

 

 

H

18 dB (Boosts sensitivity by about 8 times.)

 

 

The boosting level for each position can be specified using [GAIN L], [GAIN M], and [GAIN H] in the [CAMERA PROCESS] menu.

Memo :

Boosting the sensitivity causes the screen to appear grainier.

When in the Full Auto mode, this is fixed at AGC (Auto Gain Control). However, when Program AE is set to [TWILIGHT], the gain value is automatically set to 0 dB.

Adjusting the Shutter Speed

Applicable to: Manual shooting mode M

The shutter speed can be set to a value according to the user’s preference. When this is set to Auto, the shutter speed is automatically controlled.

Set to the Manual shooting mode.

1. Set to the shutter speed adjustment mode.

Press the SHUTTER button.

Video mode

: The shutter speed that is set in the

 

manual mode is displayed.

Still picture mode : The current shutter speed is displayed.

2. Select a shutter speed value.

Turn the ADJ./VOL. knob up or down.

The selected value is displayed.

ADJ./VOL 3. Confirm the shutter speed value.

Press the ADJ./VOL. knob.

Doing so exits the adjustment mode and the shutter speed is displayed in white.

Memo :

When in the still picture mode, shutter speed cannot be adjusted manually if exposure and aperture are set to the manual mode. (The S.SP display flashes for about 5 seconds on the screen and its setting becomes invalid.)

When in the Lolux mode, shutter speed cannot be adjusted manually. (The S.SP display flashes for about 5 seconds on the screen and its setting becomes invalid.)

Setting shutter speed to AUTO

Adjusting the Aperture

Applicable to: Manual shooting mode M

The aperture value (F-number) of the lens can be set as follows.

F-number

Description

Decrease

The subject appears brighter.

 

The focused range becomes sharper, while the

 

background is blurred to produce a soft image.

 

 

Increase

The subject appears darker.

 

Background of image becomes focused as well.
