•Protective coating burn off will cause smoking on first use. This is NOT harmful and will disappear after a short time.

•When using for the first time, wipe the surface of the plates with a damp cloth, then dry.

•Close the appliance and plug into the electrical outlet. The red power light will come on to indicate that the appliance is switched on.

•Set the thermostat to the desired position from 1 to 6 (6 being the hottest). The green temperature pilot light will come on to indicate the appliance is warming up. When the green pilot light goes out, it means that the desired temperature is reached. During use, this pilot light will come on and off regularly. This simply means that the thermostat is regulating the appliance's temperature.

•Caution: during operation, the baking plates heat up. Pay attention not to get burned.

•Open the appliance and lightly brush the grids with butter, margarine or cooking oil.

•Pour the batter evenly into the heart-shaped sections of the bottom grid but not all the way to the edges and close the appliance. Press the lid down for a moment to spread the batter evenly on the baking plate.
