6.95”Wide : widescreen display with a diagonal screen size of
6.95inches (approx. 176 mm).
6.10”Wide : widescreen display with a diagonal screen size of
6.10inches (approx. 155 mm).
TouchPanel : the touch panel allows the user to control the
system by simply touching desired positions on the monitor
screen.
GUI : stands for “Graphical User Interface“. The GUI system
displays graphical controlicons on the screen to enable simple,
intuitivecontrol of all operations. In order to maximize the visual
comfort of the user, smooth moving images areused for the
imageswitching and screen saver displays, etc.
OSD: stands for “On Screen Display“. The OSD system displays
intuitive,easy-to-understand icons on the screen to improve the
easeof operation of the users.
SkinChange : this feature allows you to change the GUI skin to
Glass,Metal, or Water depending on your mood.
WalIpaperCustomize : you can change the wallpaper display
to your favourite pictures or images via the USB port. It is also
possibleto store a maximum of 3 images in the main unit.
NAVIReady : this is the dedicated terminal for connection of a
Kenwood car navigation system. The RGB connection enables
clear display and intuitive control based on the touch panel
system.
R-CamReady : an external rear-view camera can be connected
to the H/U. The system can then automatically detect a video
signal from the camera and switch the display to that video
signal.
MotorizedSlide : this indicates that a motorized slide panel is
used. The motorized slide panel features the possibility of being
adjustedto a desired angle.
Flip-Down: the flip-down type panel allows the CD inlet to be
installed inside the panel therebymaking it possible to increase
thedisplay area of the panel.
TDF: stands for “Theft Deterrent Faceplate”. It preventstheft by
allowing the panel to be detached together with the control
section.
FL:theFLtube display represents beautiful images while secur-
inga wide viewing angle.
Display Customize : the user can customize the display by
accessing the Kenwood download site from a PC and by
downloading the desired still images and movie data. The
downloaded data can be recordedon a CD-R and then loaded
inthe H/U for customization.
AVOut : a set of audio/video output terminals is provided for
connectionto the rear monitor.
AV In : a set of audio/video input terminals is provided for
connection of auxiliary components such as a DVD player or a
videogame machine.
Preout: a set of pre-out terminals is provided for the subwoofer,
rearand front channels. This output can be used to connect an
externalamplifier for a further upgrading of the system.
AuxRCA In : The AUX RCA terminals allow a car TV or portable
audio to be connected and its audio to be reproduced directly
throughthe speakers installed in the vehicle.
AUX Mini-Jack : the output level of most portable devices
connected to AUX terminal are low because they are adjusted
for headphones. In order to re-adjust this, an input sensitivity
adjustmentfunction has been added to the head units to solve
this problem (function that offset volume by each extended
source).
Mos-Fet : the MOS-FET is a high-performance semiconductor
chip with excellent properties such as a linear operation curve
andlow distortion for use as an amplifier device.
Multi Control Wheel : new devices has been selected that
comes with rotary function added to current 4-way+Push
control knob. Gives you new method of selecting source, file,
folder,track,... and operate within each of them.
System E’s+ : the H/U incorporates High-Pass Filters that
process the front and rear channel signals independently in 8
stepsand a phase-switchable Low-Pass Filter that processes the
subwoofer channel signal in 5 steps. The system features a
subwoofer that reproduceslow frequencies exclusively through
the subwoofer channel thus making it possible to reduce the
problemsassociated with low frequencies such as resonation of
doorsand dulling of vocal frequencies.
SystemQ : this equalization system enables the EQ curve to be
presetaccording to music types (Rock, Pops, Jazz, etc.) and the
speaker matching to be preset according to the speaker type
and Bass/Mid/Treble response adjustments. The electronic
circuitry for audio volume and tone is implemented in a single
chip to stabilise the signal paths at the same time as stabilising
them. This design has made it possible to fine adjust the mid
frequencies in addition to the traditional equalization of bass
andtreble frequencies.
System Q-EX : this equalization system enables the EQ curve
presetaccording to the music type (Rock, Pops, Jazz, etc.). The
speaker matching is preset according to the speaker type and
theBass/Mid/Treble response adjustments as well as the manual
EQadjustment, Q-control and base extension control. Traditional
equalizationsystems employed multiple filters with fixed centre
frequencies and Q-factors (sharpness l evels) all over the
frequencyband. Users adjusted the levels of the filters in order
toobtain the desired sound. However, as such systems required
manyfilters the sound quality had often been inferior due to the
largenumber of filters. To deal with this problem, Kenwood has
introducedthe notion of parametric equalization, with which the
user can select the frequencies (points) that really require
adjustmentsas well as the Q-factors (sharpness levels).
Digital E’s: this is a high quality type crossover network that
performs filtering during digital processing. It uses a 13-step
processHigh Pass Filters for each of the front and rear channels
anda 13-step Low Pass Filter for the subwoofer channel. Using
filterswith three curve steps, which are capable of a steep 24 dB
cutoff in addition to the traditional cut off values of 12 and 18
dB.This is a crossover system that is possible only with a digital
system that is capable of flexibly dealing with any system and
anysetting.
DVD Audio : DVD Audio enables high audio quality music
recording,or 5.1ch surround in a DVD disc. Because it doesn't
have a region code like DVD Video, any media or driver in the
worldcan be used.
DVD Video : the DVD Video format records both video and
audioand features a large capacity to store the large amount of
video of movies etc. It also offers high audio quality at the CD
leveland is compatible with 5.1 CH surround audio. If it records
only2 channels of audio, a much higher quality than normal CD
audiois also possible.
DVD±R/RW : certain head units are compatible with multiple
DVDmedia (video formats only) including DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-
RW and DVD+RW play original DVDs recorded on home DVD
recorders. The compatibility with almost all media used in home
DVD recordersmakes it possible to play a variety of DVD video
withoutbeing too concerned about the format.
MPEG1/2 Video : the MPEG1/2 Video function is useful when
you playback MPEG1 and MPEG2 (mpg extension) files burned
to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM (single session only). Therefore, you
canenjoy your personal home movies in your car.
JPEG : this system enables playback of JPEG still picture files,
burnedto CD-ROM and DVD-ROM (single session only). You can
enjoya slide show of your favorite photos. Furthermore, you can
rotatethe photo as you like.
DivX: is an expanding format that can save around 8 hours of
videodata in on a single DVD disc. It has an excellent compres-
sionefficiency, and high operation speed.
CD-R/CD-RW : the pickup employs the 3-beam system. The
music data recorded on a music CD or CD-R/RW can be read
withimproved signal reading accuracy.
WMA / MP3 : head units with these functions are capable of
playingCD-R/RW discs recorded in the MP3 and WMA (Windows
Media Audio) music compression formats. The head unit can
displaythe title information according to the WMA tag and MP3
IDtag showing titles and artist, and is also compatible with the
long name files of Joliet and Romeo. The system can also play
backCD-R/RW discs on which MP3 and WMA files coexist.
AAC: stands for “Advanced Audio Coding”. It is an audio codec
developedby the organization that is responsible for the MPEG
standards and it achieves audio encoding with a much higher
compressionefficiency than previous formats such as MP3. The
Kenwoodplayers can reproduce MPEG-4 format .m4a files that
arecompressed by using AAC-LC.
Supreme Audio : when a music file is compressed, the high
frequencysignals are lost, particularly if it is encodedusing a low
bit rate. The Supremetechnology is a Kenwood-original audio
compensation technology that compensates for thisloss and
reproduces music in a more natural form, thereby making it
possibleto play music recorded using low bit rates (64k to 96k)
in an audioquality equivalent to music recorded using a higher
bit rate(equivalent to 128k) This compensation may sometimes
beinoperative with certain types of music orbit rates. This means
that1.5 or 2 times more music files than before can be recorded
with high compressionratios in a CD-R/RW without losing the
natural, rich soundof music files recorded with lower compression
ratios.
Bass Boost : which boosts only the low frequency range has
been added in addition to the conventional Loudness. Provides
morelower range sound, eliminating the lack of dynamic range
inbass of genuine speakers. This function uses dedicated block
inthe IC that is effective to boosts more bass.
24 Bit DAC : a 24-bit D/A converter is used in many high-class
audio equipment systems thanks to the high reputation of its
sound quality. Its quality enables it to reproduce accurate and
rich music, including even the very subtle nuances as recorded
onthe CD.
RDSRadio Text : RDS stands for “Radio Data System”. It is an
international standard for broadcastingdata in the sub-carrier
signalof the radio waves from FM stations. Its functions include
the PS (Program Service name) for displayingprogram service
labels in up to 8 digits, the PI (Program Identification) for
searchingan alternative station when the receiving sensitivity of
astation drops during movement, the TA (TrafficAnnouncement
identification)for switching to a traffic information station, and
the Radio-Textfunction for displaying text of artist names and
musicnames.
K3iTuner : this is a high-performance tuner capable of avoiding
interference from adjacent radio stations. While traditional
systemsemploy two kinds of filters, the narrow and wide filters,
and either filter is selected according to the situation, the new
system incorporates an additional mid filter and can select one
ofthe three filters. When the interference is at a medium level,
this reduces the distortion considerably at the same time as
preventingthe channel separation from being deteriorated.
Dual Zone : the Dual Zone function allows the front and rear
seats to enjoy different sources. For example, it is possible to
separately output the audio of a music source, such as CD or
radio fromthe front speakers and the audio of a visual source,
such as DVD from the rear speakers. With a CD receiver,it is
possible to output the audio of a music source, such as CD or
radio from the front speakers and the audio of a component
connected to the AUX Input from the rear speakers. Models
without the built-in AUX Input, can still operate the Dual Zone
function by connecting the auxiliary input adapter (CA-C1 AX)
to the changer control terminals. In addition, with both visual
modelsand CD receiver models, a reverse function is provided to
reversethe front audio and the rear audio.
DAB Ready : this indicates that the DAB (Digital Audio Broad-
casting) blackbox (KTC-9090DAB) can be connected. DAB is a
digital radio broadcasting system in Europe and featuresmany
advantages that aremuch superior to the FM radio, capable of
distributingCD-quality stereo audio with high reliability even to
mobilereceivers equipped only with simple rod aerials. Reception
ofFM broadcasting is often distorted or interrupted because the
reflectionsfrom hills and buildings enter the receivers in different
phases from the main signal and also because multi-path
interference is more noticeable in moving vehicles. The DAB
receiverincorporates a powerful processor that can reinforce the
mainsignal by making use of these “shadow“ signals.
USB: any of the increasingly popular USB (Universal Serial Bus)-
basedportable memory devices can be connected directly to the
USBconnector for the reproduction of music stored in the device
inthe same way as in a CD, at the same time displaying the tag
information stored with the music. This applies only to those
music files that are not protected by the DRM (Digital Rights
Management)copyguard function.Kenwood’s1-DIN CD receivers
featurea USB cable from the rear of the unit while 2-DIN models
have a connection port on the front panel. Moreover, if the
connected USB device has a rechargeable battery,it can draw
power via the bus allowing long playing times without the risk
ofrunning the battery flat.
1-WireiPod Digital Connection : For high speed data transfer:
Control,Text (Meta) data & DIGITAL Audio Data. The audio data
comesinto the D/A converter with original digital data through
USB, as the quality of the D/A converter used in H/U aremuch
better then the ones used in iPod, means that better sound
qualitycan be reproduced.
iPodReady : an iPOD (portable HDD player from Apple Inc.) can
be connected to the changer control terminal of a Kenwood
headunit using an optional interface kit. This makes it possible
to play music stored in the iPOD through the head unit and
featureseasy file retrieval by Playlist/ Genre/ Artist/ Album name,
withall details displayed on the head unit.

manage your compressed music storedin your PC, Creation of
userselected Playlists, includingunique Auto Playlist. Transferring
musicdata to USB device.
OEMWired Remote : this indicates that the system allows the
factoryfitted steering wheel remote controller of the vehicle, to
controlthe Kenwood head unit for genuine audio.
OEMDisplay Output : this is a function for providing compa-
tibilitywith Opel/Vauxhall vehicles. It makes it possible to display
the head unit information on the display at the right of the
instrumentpanel of a genuine Opel/Vauxhall (an optional wiring
loomis required).
ODDD/A System : ODD stands for “Offset Dual Differential”.
It is a Kenwood original digital circuit system developed for
obtaining highly accurate music signals. In the DSP,it shifts the
digital sound data into the negative direction in order to
generate another item of data, samples the two kinds of data
and synthesizes them in orderto reduce any distortion or error
thatmay result from D/A conversion. It works together with the
left/right independent D/A converter system to reproduce a
feelingof presence in the recording.
iPodReady : an iPod (portable HDD player from Apple Inc.) can
be connected to the changer control terminal of a Kenwood
headunit using an optional interface kit. This makes it possible
to play music stored in the iPOD through the head unit and
features easy file retrieval by Playlist/Genre/Artist/Album name,
withall details displayed on the head unit.
Installer Memory : this functionstores the optimum acoustic
fieldset by an expertinstaller to suit thespecific vehicle. If theuser
doesnot like the acoustic fieldas adjusted by him or herself, the
usercan recall the defaultsetting made by the installer.
DTA: stands for “Digital time alignment”. When the user sets
the distance between each speaker and the listening position,
theDTA automatically adjusts the timing of each sound reaching
the listening position. The user may thus enjoy the surround
sound, corrected according to the vehicle model.
2Ohm Capability : this amplifier is capable of driving very low-
impedancespeakers with a total load of only 2
W
.
EasyFit : this refers to a special connector, to which the unique
speaker terminals used by European vehicles of three main
manufacturerscan be connectedwithout modifications.
