Log Placement Guide for ELDV3530/ELDV4035/ELDV4540
Elite Series Gas appliances
General information
This log placement guide has been prepared to present detailed place- ment illustrations and provide instruction to assist in the initial (new appliance) setup and after the annual cleaning and inspection cycles. The information provided here is to be used in conjunction with the Care and Operation Instructions provided together with this document in the appliance literature packet. Please read the Care and Operation Instructions completely before completing the procedures detailed in this placement guide.
Initial Installation Considerations
If the logs are being installed for the first time, the following para- graphs apply:
DO NOT attempt to install the logs until the appliance installation has been completed, the gas line connected and tested for leaks and the initial burner operation has been checked out.
Step 1. Remove the appliance front door.
Step 2. Cut and remove the nylon strapping securing the log set inside the fireplace.
Step 3. Remove the logs from their packaging. Handle logs care- fully to prevent breakage.
Log And Glowing Ember Placement
Step 1. Position the individual logs as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5. Logs should be placed in the order shown.
Step 2. Separate the Glowing Ember (Rockwool) into pieces about the size of a nickel (see Figure 1). Keep the pieces fluffed up with torn edges and not matted. Distribute these pieces over the burner as shown in Figure 2. Do not use more than necessary. When properly positioned, the Glowing Embers will cover approximately 10% of the burner. Do not place embers on main ports.
Step 3. Place a mixture of volcanic stone and vermiculite around the burner as shown. Do not place the mixture on the burner.
Note: Excessive use of embers may result in sooting or poor flame. This appliance is provided with enough Glowing Embers for several applications, do not feel compelled to use all that is in a new bag. For best glowing effect, replace the ember material annually. Replacement Glowing Embers are available (Catalog Number 88L53).

Proper log and twig placement is critical to encourage outstanding flame appearance and prevent sooting.
These fires are designed to provide a rich orange/red glow on the logs. Rear log (2) placement is critical. An adjustment of one quarter of an inch can have significant effect on flame color and height. Pull rear log
(2) forward as far as it will go on the pins.
Note: The log set and fire are artistically arranged to provide a random asymmetric look to the fire. The fire intentionally does not burn in the left rear quarter of the log set.
