THE GOAL: SECURE BUSINESS PROCESS AUTOMATION
Many large organizations struggle with intensively manual business processes that must meet increased secu rity requir emen ts from information priva cy legislation. As these organizations transition from manual to automated business processes, they will increase the amount of sensitive information stored in IT systems both within their organ ization and with custo mers and partners. As a result, thes e organizations are looking for systems to automate their business processes while ensuring information security compliance requirements are met.
Howev er, standing in the way of these goals are the legacy inform ation syste ms, such as huma n resources, enterprise resource management (ERP), customer relations hip managem ent (CRM), and finance, and the integration of disparate corporate, branch office, and partner systems, each of which implements data security differently.
SOA has been essential in creating loosely coupled Information Systems and reusable services while Web services have been instrumental in the proliferation of business process automatio n. Althoug h these technologies take corporations closer to their goal, there is still one more step: the incorpora tion of security and compliancein businessprocess automation.
