3 InstallOptional Accessories

4 Setup the Printer

LoadPap er into Tray1
Connectthe Power Cord
CAUTION
Useonly the power cord supplied with the printer.
1Makesure that the
printer’spower
switchis in the “O”
(OFF)position.
2Plugone end of the
powercord that
comeswith the
printerinto the power cord socket on the back of
theprinter. Plug the other end into a power outlet.
Turnon the Printer
Setthe power switch to the “ I”
(ON)position. The printer is
readyto use in approximately
20seconds. The green
“Ready”indicator should be on
(butnot blinking) and the
orange“Error” in dicator off.
Testthe Printer
Printa conf iguration page to ensure that the printer is
operatingcorrectl y.
1Withthe green “Re ady” indicator on
(butnot blinking) and the orange “Erro r”
indicatoroff, brieflypress the panel
button.All indicators blink rapidly.
2Pressthe panel button two more times.

5 Connectthe Printer to a PC

Ifyou’re connecting the printer to a Macintosh, skip to
thenext section, “Connect the Printe rt oa Ma cintosh.”

CAUTION
Usingthe wrong type of cable can damage the
socketon the printer.Use only an IEEE 1284 type B
shieldedinterface cable.
1Turnoff both the
printerand the
PC.
2Connectone end
ofthe interface
cableto the paral-
lelportofthePC.
3Connectthe other
endof the inter -
facecable to the parallel interface connector on
theback of the printe r.Secure th e cable using the
twoclips.
4Turnon the printer and then, whenit’s ready, turn
onthe PC.
5Ifyou’re using Windows XP/Me/2000/98, p lug-and-
playprinter driver installation sho uld start
automatically.Follow the instructions on the
screen.
Ifyou’re using Windows 95/NT 4.0, or if plug-and-
playdoesn’t star t automatically,use theinstruc-
tionsin Section 7, “Install a Win dowsDr iver,”to
installthe printer driver manually.
USBInterface (Windows XP/2000/Me/98)
CAUTION
Usingthe wrong type of cable can damage the
socketon the printer. Use only a USB Revision 1.1
compliantcable.
1Turnoff both the
PCand the
printer.
2Turn o n the PC .
3Turn o n the
printer.
4WhenWindows
andtheprinter are
bothready, connect one end of the interface cable
tothe PC’s USB port.
5Connectthe other end of the interface cable to the
USBinterface connector on the backof the printer.
6Plug-and-playprinter driver installation should
startautomatically. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
Ifplug-and-play doesn’t start autom atically,use the
instructionsi nSec tion 7, “Install a Windows
Driver,”to install the printer driver manually.
