Theinformation providedin this document supersedesthe general
safetyinformationin user guides published prior to December1, 2002.
Transmitand Receive Procedure
Yourtwo-way radio contains a transmitter and a receiver. Tocontrol
yourexposure and ensure compliance with the general population/
uncontrolledenvironment exposure limits, always adhere to the
followingprocedure:
Transmitno more than 50% of the time.
Toreceive calls, release the PTT button.
Totransmit (talk), press the Push to Talk(PTT) button.
Transmitting50% of the time, or less, is important because the radio
generatesmeasurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting
(interms of measuring standards compliance).
Exposureto Radio Frequency Energy
YourMotorola two-way radio complies with the following RF energy
exposurestandards and guidelines:
UnitedStates Federal Communications Commission, Code of
FederalRegulations; 47CFR part 2 sub-part J.
AmericanNational Standards Institute (ANSI)/Institute of
Electricaland Electronic Engineers (IEEE) C95. 1-1992.

Toensure optimal radio performance and make sure human
exposureto radio frequency electromagnetic energy is within the
guidelinesset forth in the above standards, always adhere to the
followingprocedures.
PortableRadio Operation and EME Exposure
AntennaCare
Useonly the supplied or an approved replacement antenna.
Unauthorizedantennas, modifications, or attachments could
damagethe radio and may violate FCC regulations.
DoNOT hold the antenna when the radio is “IN USE.” Holding the
antennaaffects its effective range.
Body-WornOperation
Tomaintain compliances with FCC/Health Canada RF exposure
guidelinesif you wear a radio on your body when transmitting
alwaysplace the radio in a Motorola-supplied or approved clip
holder, holster, case or body harness for this product. Use of non-
Motorola-approvedaccessories may exceed FCC/Health Canada RF
exposureguidelines.
Ifyou do not use one of the Motorola-supplied or approved body-
wornaccessories and are not using the radio held in the normal use
position, ensure the radio and its antenna are at least 1 inch (2.5
cm)from your body when transmitting.

Facilities
Toavoid electromagnetic interference and/or compatibility conflicts,
turnoff your radio in any facility where posted notices instruct you
todo so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment
thatis sensitive to external RF energy.
Aircraft
Wheninstructed to do so, turn off your radio when onboard an
aircraft.Any use of a radio must be in accordance with applicable
regulationsper airline crew instructions.
MedicalDevices – Pacemakers
TheAdvanced Medical Technology Association recommends that a
minimumseparation of 6 inches (15 cm) be maintained between a
handheldwireless radio and a pacemaker. These recommendations
areconsistent with the independent research by and
recommendationsof the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Peoplewith pacemakers should:
ALWAYSkeep the radio more than 6 inches (15 cm) from their
pacemakerwhen the radio is turned ON.
Notcarry the radio in the breast pocket.
Usethe ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential
forinterference.
Turnthe radio OFF immediately if there is any reason to suspect
thatinterference is taking place.
MedicalDevices – Hearing Aids
Somedigital wireless radios may interfere with some hearing aids.
Inthe event of such interference, you may want to consult your
hearingaid manufacturer to discuss alternatives.
MedicalDevices – Other
Ifyou use any other personal medical device, consult the
manufacturerof your device to determine if it is adequately
shieldedfrom RF energy. Your physician may be able to assist you in
obtainingthis information.
Safetyand General Use While Driving

areawhere you drive, and always obey them. If you do use your
radiowhile driving, please:
Givefull attention to driving and to the road.
Usehands-free operation, if available.
Pulloff the road and park before making or answering a call if
drivingconditions so require.
Theuse of a two-way radio while engaged in activities requiring
concentrationmay cause distraction or otherwise impair your
abilityto safely participate in such activities. Always use technology
safely.
Donot place a portable radio in the area over an air bag or in the
airbag deployment area. Air bags inflate with great force. If a
portableradio is placed in the air bag deployment area and the air
baginflates, the radio may be propelled with great force and cause
seriousinjury to occupants of the vehicle.
PotentiallyExplosive Atmospheres
Turnoff your radio prior to entering any area with a potentially
explosiveatmosphere. Only radio types that are especially qualified
shouldbe used in such areas as “Intrinsically Safe.” Do not remove,
installor charge batteries in such areas. Sparks in a potentially
explosiveatmosphere can cause an explosion or fire resulting in
bodilyinjury or even death.
