Spark Plug Wire

Disconnect spark plug wire from the spark plug and ground it against the engine. If engine is equipped with a rubber boot, attach rubber boot to a bolt on the engine. This will prevent the engine from firing during assembly.

Lower the Discharge Chute

1.For shipping purposes, the chute deflector on your mower is held in an upright position by a retainer. Push chute deflector up towards engine. Holding deflector in this position, remove the retainer and discard, Figure 3-1.

2.Lower the chute deflector carefully keeping your fingers out of the way.

Attach the Handles

The lower handle has two flat ends with three holes each, one small and two large. The upper handle has indented ends with one hole and may have the blade control handle attached, Figure 3-3.

Attaching Lower Handle

NOTE: Use the hardware in Group 1 to attach the lower handle.

1.Place the lower handle over the handle bracket assemblies and position each bracket stud into the top or bottom hole, Figure 3-4.

2.Secure with the star knobs, Figure 3-4. Each side of the lower handle must be positioned onto the stud at the same position.

Attaching Upper Handle

NOTE: Use the hardware in Group 2 to attach the upper handle.

1.Place the upper handle in position over the lower handle keeping the blade control handle (if attached) facing up.

2.Secure the upper handle to the lower handle using the carriage bolts and star knobs, Figure 3-5. Make sure that the carriage bolt heads go on the outside of the handle.
