X-LPSV8AMPLIFIER PROBLEMS?

Basic problem-solving with an amplifier is similar to troubleshooting other electrical or electronic equipment. Always check the most obvious possible causes first, such as the following examples:

Problem	Probable Cause	Remedy
No power	Mains power supply is not fully	Plug in securely
	inserted into mains socket
	Mains power supply lead is not fully
	inserted into rear socket
No sound	Wrong connections between input	Check audio input lead connections
	sources and the unit
	Cartridge incorrectly wired	Check cartridge wiring
Sound is not precise, lacking in bass	Cartridge incorrectly wired	Double-check cartridge wiring using
and stereo image		cartridge and turntable
	Input connector plugs not fully	manuals/wiring diagrams.
		Check plugs are inserted fully and
	pushed in
	Output connector plugs not fully	securely
	pushed in
Hum	Turntable not earthed and needs	Check turntable earthing lead is
	earthing	connected to earthing post on XLPS
		V8
	Turntable already earthed and makes	Disconnect Earthing lead from
	hum loop in system	earthing post
	Audio connector plug not fully	Insert plug securely
	pushed in	Check cable is connected at both
	Cable Fault	ends.
	Unsuitable Cable	N.B. some esoteric cables have
	(e.g. cable grounds not connected)	internal wiring intentionally
		disconnected/modified. For best
		results on all inputs AND outputs,
		please use good quality screened
		coax; fully connected signal-to signal,
		screen-to-screen.
Plop Heard in speakers when	High gain of XLPS V8 amplifying	Not a fault.
switching on or off or changing	circuit transients.	Please ensure volume level on
MM/MC switch		amplifier is turned down if switching
		the XLPS V8 on or off or changing
		cartridge type switch whilst
		connected.
