FOCUSING

The fully automatic diaphragm of the Micro- Nikkor enables focusing with maximum image brightness throughout the entire focusing range

of the lens. As the image is constantly viewed at the maximum aperture setting (i.e., f/4), the depth of field is minimized so that the image snaps in and out of focus rapidly and distinctly.

To focus, turn the focusing ring until the image on the focusing screen appears sharp and crisp. Via the special focusing helicoid, the Micro- Nikkor operates continuously from infinity

(°°)to 0.47m (1.55 ft) for a reproduction ratio of 1:2.

The distance scale on the focusing ring is marked in both meters (white) and feet (yel- low). These figures indicate the distance from the subject to the camera's film plane.

Note: The exact position of the film plane is indicat- ed on all cameras for convenience when measuring. On Nikon F/F2 cameras, the top edge of the serial number is the exact position of the plane. On other Nikon and Nikkormat cameras, the plane is indicated by the symbol (-Q-)

Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 specifications

The Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 is a renowned macro lens that has captured the interest of photographers, particularly those specializing in close-up and nature photography. With its extraordinary delivery of sharpness and precision, this lens has established itself as a favorite among both amateurs and professionals.

One of the main features of the Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 is its impressive 1:1 reproduction ratio. This capability allows photographers to capture life-sized images of small subjects, making it ideal for macro photography. The lens provides a working distance of approximately 6.3 inches, which is advantageous for keeping a safe distance from delicate subjects, such as insects and flowers, ensuring that they remain undisturbed.

The lens construction includes 9 elements in 8 groups, which work together to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions. This optical design, along with the Nikon multicoating technology, enhances light transmission and reduces flare and ghosting, resulting in clearer and more vibrant images. The lens exhibits exceptional sharpness, even at its maximum aperture of f/4, while maintaining good image quality throughout its aperture range.

Another significant feature of the Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 is its focus mechanism. The lens utilizes a manual focus system with a smooth focus ring, making it easier for photographers to achieve precise control when working with close-up subjects. Furthermore, it has a relatively compact and lightweight design, making it portable for outdoor shooting.

The Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 is equipped with the well-regarded Nikon close-up capability, allowing users to easily shoot in challenging macro environments. It also has a rubber seal that offers some degree of protection against dust and moisture, although it is not entirely weather-sealed.

Additionally, this lens is compatible with Nikon's tele converters, which can extend its focal length for even greater close-up capabilities while retaining image quality.

In conclusion, the Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 stands out with its high-quality optics, versatile macro capabilities, and user-friendly design. It is a valuable tool for photographers looking to explore the intimate details of the small world around them.
