Using the flash

The flash functions can be selected to best match the shooting conditions.1 Lift the flash knob to flip up the built-in flash.

Flash knob

The flash settings cannot be adjusted with the flash closed.

Option

Description

FLASH AUTO

The flash fires automatically in

low-light or backlight conditions.

 

 

Pre-flashes are emitted to reduce

REDEYE

the occurrence of red eye in your

 

photos.

FILL IN

The flash fires regardless of the

available light.

 

FLASH OFF

The flash does not fire.

Shooting closeups (Macro shooting)

This function enables the camera to focus and shoot subjects at close distances.

1 Select the macro option in the shooting function menu.
To turn off the flash

Press the flash down back into the camera. This sets to $(FLASH OFF) mode.

2 Select the flash option in the shooting function menu.

Macro mode is deactivated.

This enables shooting as close as

MACRO 15 cm/5.9 in.*1 (180 cm/70.8 in.*2)

to the subject.

SUPER MACRO*3 This enables shooting as close as 1 cm/0.4 in. to the subject.

*1 When the zoom is at the widest (W) position.

*2 When the zoom is at the most telephoto (T) position. *3 The zoom is automatically fixed.

The flash (p. 25) and zoom (p. 15) cannot be set when [aSUPER MACRO] is selected.
