DVCPROHD und DVCPRO50 konvertieren Videosignale vor der Aufnahme in digitale Komponentensignale mit 4:2:2-Sampling (Digitizing). Diese Signale sind konform mit SMPTE259 für Standard-SDI-Signale und nach ITU-R601 spezifiziert. Beim DVCPROHD-Format wird das Y-Signal (Helligkeit) mit 74,25 MHz und die

Pb/Pr-Signale (Chroma) mit je 37,125 MHz gesampelt. Jeweils vier Y-Samples werden mit je zwei Pb- und zwei Pr-Samples kombiniert. Mit dieser hohen Information für das Farbdifferenzsignal bietet das System eine hervorragende Farbauflösung.

Das mit 4:2:2 gesampelte Signal ist eine wichtige Voraussetzung zur High-End- Produktion im TV-Markt. Andernfalls würde der Farbumfang von Generation zu Generation in der Post Production leiden.

Ein weiterer Grund für 4:2:2 hängt mit der Chroma-Key-Composition zusammen. Da das 4:2:2-Sampling eine höhere Farbauflösung bietet, werden Treppeneffekte in den Farbrändern minimiert.
