1.
The chipper i s a flywheel-and-knife type of chipper, not a shredder. The blades
actually chip the limbs as they are fed into the he ad. The blades must be sharp to
operate properly. Dirt, rocks , nails, or other foreign material will s horten blade life.
2. Before operating the chippe r, review the machine checklist. After turning th e chipper
by hand and making sure th ere are no obstructions in the head, s tart the tractor and
raise the chipper until the P TO shaft is within 15 degrees of straigh t.
3. Start the chipp er slowly with the PTO engaged, and release the PTO cl utch slowly.
Gradually increase speed until the tractor PTO speed is 540 RP M.
4. The material will fee d into the head more easily if you start the pieces with the large
end first. The feed roll will fold branches as they are pulled into the hopper.
Occasionally, a limb fork ma y have to be cut to feed properly.
5. If the material sto ps feeding, sometimes a li ttle push on the long end of the limb will
help.
6. If the material stops the feed roll, releas e the feed roll clutch by pushing it toward the
chute. Hold the clutch in the diseng aged mode, and pull the mate rial out of the
hopper. Release the feed rol l clutch and the feed roll will turn ag ain.
NOTE: Cut only clean materi al, or blade life will be shortened.
7. Watch the discharge ch ute while operating the unit. If th e chips stop flowing, stop
feeding material into the unit by moving the f eed roll clutch handle towa rd the chute
and pulling the material from the hopper. Most of the time this will be enoug h to clear
the chips out o f the unit. If the unit slows down noticeably, first shut off the PTO
power, then the tractor, and remove the key.
8. Unplug the h ead by turning i t backwards by han d with the discha rge chute and top
section of the wrapper off.
9. Remove the chips from the top of the head. If this fails, remove t he clean-out door,
located on the low er part of the front side -plate of the chipper bel ow the main shaft,
then work the chips out of the case.
10. Replace t he clean-out door after all the chips are remov ed, being sure to use both
