move the adjustment pin up and down the
screw. Locate this adjustment before y ou
begin mounting the bar onto the saw. See
following illustration.

4. Turnthe adjusting screw by hand c oun-
terclockwise until the adjusting pin just
touches the stop. This should allow the
pin to be near the correct position.
5. Slide guide bar on bar bolts until guide
bars tops against clutch drum sprocket.

6. Carefully remove the chain f rom the pack-
age. Hold chain with the drive links as
shown.

7. Place chain over and behind clutch re-
tainer,fitting the dr ive links in the clutch
drum sprocket.
8. Fit bottom of drive links between the
teeth in the sprocket in the nose of the
guide bar.
9. Fitchain driv e links into bar groove.
10. Pull guide bar forward until chain is snug
in guide bar groove. Ensure all drive
links are in the bar groove.
11. Now, install clutch cover mak ing sure
theadjusting pin is positioned in the low-
erhole in the guide bar. Remember this
pin moves the bar forward and back-
ward as the screw is turned.

12. Install bar nuts and finger tighten only.
Once the chain is tensioned, you will
need tot ighten bar nuts.

CHAIN TENSION

(Including units with chain already installed)
WARNING: Wear protectiv e gloves
whenhandling chain. Thechain is s harp and
can cut you even when it is not moving.
NOTE: When adjusting chain tension,
make sure the bar nuts are finger tight only.
Attemptingto tension the chain when the bar
nuts are tight can cause damage.

Checking thetension:

Usethe s crewdriver end of the chain adjust-
ment tool (bar tool) to move chain around
guidebar. If the chain does not rotate, it is too
tight. If the chain is too loose, it will s ag below
the bar.

Adjusting the tension:

Chain tension is very important. Chains
stretch during use. This is especially true
during the first few times you use your saw.
Always check chain tension each time be-
fore you start the chain saw.
1. Loosenbar nuts until they are finger tight
against the clutch cover.
2. Turnadjus ting screw clockwise unt ilc hain
solidly contacts bottom of guide bar rail.
