1. Wyreless Access™ System (WAS)

1.1 Overview

Every access control system that uses Wyreless AccessTM contains two different types of modules (Figure

1-1):

at least one Wyreless Panel Interface Module (WPIM), and

at least one Wyreless Access Point Module (WAPM)

Figure 1-1 – Wyreless Access System Block Diagram

The WPIM is wired to the access control panel and ideally is installed very close to the access control panel. The WPIMs installation location is determined by the location of the WAPMs with which it will communicate using RF.

The WAPM is installed at the access point where access will be controlled and/or monitored. Depending on the application and which WAPM is used, some wiring at the access control point may be required.

Regardless of which WPIM or WAPM module is used, the communication link between the WPIM and WAPM is always RF.

This manual describes the installation and operation of a Panel Interface Module-RS485-NexSentry (PIM-485-16-TD-NXT), a WPIM.

Schlage RS485 manual Wyreless Access System WAS, Overview

RS485 specifications

Schlage RS485 is an advanced access control solution designed to enhance security and improve management within various applications, including commercial facilities, educational institutions, and healthcare environments. Known for its reliability and performance, the RS485 system operates through the popular RS485 communication protocol, which enables the connection of multiple devices over long distances, making it an ideal choice for large-scale installations.

One of the main features of Schlage RS485 is its ability to support multiple door access points through a single communication line. This reduces the overall wiring requirements, resulting in a more efficient and cost-effective installation process. The RS485 protocol facilitates communication between a controller and various locking devices, making it possible to manage access to several doors from a central location.

Technologically, Schlage RS485 integrates seamlessly with various types of locking mechanisms, including electronic locks, magnetic locks, and electromagnetic locks. This versatility allows users to choose the locking options that best suit their security needs. Additionally, the system is compatible with many third-party access control software applications, providing flexibility in system management and customization.

Another significant characteristic of the Schlage RS485 is its compatibility with both standalone and networked configurations. This flexibility enables organizations to scale their access control systems according to their specific requirements. Whether it’s a single door or an extensive network of access points, the RS485 system can be tailored to fit the needs of any facility.

Security is amplified through enhanced encryption technologies integrated into the RS485 system. These security measures protect data transmission between devices and the central controller, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access and ensuring that sensitive information remains secure.

Schlage RS485 also features user-friendly management software, which allows administrators to easily program user access rights, monitor activity logs, and generate reports. This comprehensive management capability fosters an efficient security environment and enables organizations to respond swiftly to potential breaches or security incidents.

In summary, Schlage RS485 stands out in the field of access control systems through its robust features, compatibility with various locking technologies, and flexible configurations. Its reliability and advanced security measures make it a premier choice for organizations seeking to enhance their safety and access management protocols.
