Filling the Water Heater

CAUTION
Never use this water heater unlessit iscompletely filled
with water. To prevent damageto thetank, the tank must
befilled with water. Water must flow fromthe hot water
faucetbefore turning "ON" gastothe waterheater.
Tofill the water heater with water:
1. Close the water heaterdrain valve byturning the han-
dle to the right(clockwise). The drain valveis on the
lower front of thewater heater.
2. Open thecold water supply valve to thewaterheater.
NOTE: The coldwater supplyvalve must be left open
when the water heateris |rl use.
3. To insurecompletefillin_ of the tank, allow air to exit
by opening the nearesthot water faucet. Allow water
to run unti/a constantflow isobtained. This will let air
out of the water heaterand the piping.
4. Check all new water pipingfor leaks. Repairas needed.

Forproper venting in certain installations, a larger diameter
vent pipe may be necessary. Due to great variances in
installations, unforeseeable by the manufacturer of the
water heater, you must consult your gas company to aid
you in determining the proper venting for your water heater
from the vent tables in the latestedition of the National Fuel
GasCode ANSI Z223.1, alsoreferred to as NFPA 54.
Check the venting systemfor signs of obstruction or deterio-
ration and replace if needed.
The combustion and ventilation air flow must not be
obstructed.
WARNING /
Obstructed or deteriorated vent systemsmay present[
serioushealth risk or asphyxiation. J12
1. Place the draft hood legs in the receiving holes on the
top of thewater heater. The legswill snap in the holes
to give a tight fit.
2. Place the vent pipe over the draft hood. With the vent
pipe in position, drill a small hole through both the
vent pipe and draft hood. Secure them together with a
sheet metal screw.
