Use of a second 604 for picking up the bottom of the drumskin and the snares. NB: The lower microphone must be phase-reversed to avoid phase-cancellation effects due to the second microphone being on the other side of the drumskin.

In order to prevent interference due to crosstalk between adjacent sound sources, try to position the microphone so that the interfering sound source is located in the angle area of the highest cancellation of the microphone (approx. 135°; see polar diagram).

604 specifications

The Sennheiser e604 is a dynamic microphone specifically designed for drum and percussion applications, making it a popular choice among musicians and sound engineers. Renowned for its outstanding performance and durability, the e604 delivers clear and well-defined sound suitable for live performances and studio recordings alike.

One of the standout features of the e604 is its compact design. With a low-profile body, this microphone is easily mountable on drum kits without obstructing the player's movements. Additionally, its lightweight construction ensures minimal interference during performances, which is crucial for maintaining a clean sound and preventing any unwanted noise.

The e604 employs a cardioid pickup pattern, which effectively captures sound from the front while rejecting ambient noise from the sides and rear. This design minimizes feedback and enhances isolation of the instrument being recorded, be it a snare drum, tom, or any other percussion instrument. The microphone’s frequency response is optimized for capturing the nuances of drums, providing a balanced sound that emphasizes the attack and body of the instrument.

Furthermore, Sennheiser has incorporated advanced technologies into the e604, including a rugged design capable of withstanding the rigors of live performances. This microphone is built to last, featuring a robust metal housing that offers protection against physical impacts.

Another significant characteristic of the e604 is its compatibility with various mounting options. The microphone comes with an integrated clip, allowing for easy placement on drum rims or stands. This versatility makes it suitable for a range of applications, from live gigs to studio recordings.

In conclusion, the Sennheiser e604 stands out for its exceptional sound quality, durability, and user-friendly design. With its cardioid polar pattern, optimized frequency response, and rugged construction, it caters to the needs of drummers and sound engineers who demand a reliable and effective microphone for capturing the dynamic sounds of percussion instruments. Whether on the stage or in the studio, the e604 is a trusted choice that delivers performance and clarity, reinforcing Sennheiser’s reputation as a leader in audio technology.
