MZD 8000

Mikrophone MKH 8000 Series

General Description

The fantastic sound of the MKH 8000 series can now be converted to digital directly at the microphone head, ensuring a natural sound without any loss of quality. The compact digital module is simply screwed onto the microphone head in place of the XLR module, turning the audio signal of the MKH 8020 (omni-directional), MKH 8040 (cardioid) and MKH 8050 (super-cardioid) into a digital one. The new digital module ensures that the warm, natural, yet fantastically clear and powerful sound of the MKH 8000 series is maintained in full quality along the entire signal chain. In contrast to conventional digitization, which uses a separate analogue/ digital converter at some stage in the chain, the Sennheiser MZD 8000 digital module eliminates cable losses and, most importantly, features a converter and surrounding circuitry that have been optimally matched to the microphone.

Like all signal-carrying components in the 8000 series, the module is desi- gned with two channels and converts the microphone signal according to the AES 42 standard. The microphones can be synchronized by any digital system. In addition to the A/D converter (24-bit, sampling rate up to 192 kHz), the digital module contains a highly integrated DSP unit. With the aid of dedicated PC control software and an AES 42 interface, the micro- phone allows settings such as the low-cut filter, attenuation and limiter to be remote-controlled. The required phantom power for microphones is provided by an AES 42 interface, e.g. Neumann’s DMI.

MKH 8000 Series, MZD 8000 specifications

The Sennheiser MZD 8000 and MKH 8000 series microphones represent the pinnacle of audio engineering, designed for professionals who demand the highest quality in sound recording. Known for their exceptional sound fidelity, these microphones are widely used in broadcasting, film production, and live sound applications.

The MKH 8000 series microphones utilize a unique RF (Radio Frequency) condenser technology, which provides them with a high signal-to-noise ratio and minimal distortion. This state-of-the-art technology ensures that the microphones capture sound with remarkable clarity and detail, making them ideal for critical recording situations. The RF design also contributes to their durability, making them less susceptible to humidity and temperature variations, a crucial feature for outdoor recordings or variable environments.

A standout feature of the MZD 8000 is its modular design, which allows users to customize their setup according to specific requirements. The MZD 8000 can be combined with various capsules from the MKH 8000 series, including omnidirectional, cardioid, and supercardioid options. This versatility enables users to select the microphone pattern that best suits their recording needs, whether it's capturing ambient sound or focusing on a specific source.

Another notable characteristic of the MKH 8000 series is its exceptional transient response, allowing it to accurately capture rapid sound waves without distortion. This precision is particularly beneficial for applications like orchestral recordings or capturing dynamic performances, where every nuance of the sound must be faithfully reproduced.

The microphones also feature low self-noise levels, making them an excellent choice for quiet recording environments where subtle sounds need to be captured. Their flat frequency response further enhances their ability to deliver an accurate representation of the sound source, ensuring that recordings maintain their true character.

In addition, the MKH 8000 series microphones are built to withstand the rigors of professional use, with robust construction that ensures longevity. Their compact size and lightweight design make them easy to handle and position in a variety of settings.

Overall, the Sennheiser MZD 8000 and MKH 8000 series microphones are tailored for audio professionals seeking reliability, versatility, and superior sound quality. With their advanced technologies and thoughtful design features, these microphones stand out as essential tools for achieving exceptional audio recordings.
