Model SM2 User Guide

GENERAL

The SM2 is a comfortable, self-adjusting headset with dual enclosed ear receivers and an attached broadcast-quality boom-mounted microphone. Designed for news and sports broadcasting, special events remote announcing, interview- ing, and intercom systems, the SM2 permits convenient hands-free operation

The microphone in the SM2 is a close-talking unidirectional dynamic type with a response fiom 50 to 15,000 Hz. Because of its noise-reducing character, it discriminates in favor of close sounds and against distant sounds. As a result, it can be used even under extremely noisy conditions without loss or masking of the voice signal. The microphone boom pivots through 155º so that the microphone can be correctly posi- tioned at the corner of the mouth either from the left or right side. A locking thumbscrew prevents the microphone from slipping or twisting out of place.

The dual earphones have a frequency response of 100 to 8,000 Hz with excellent voice intelligibility for cue, program, sidetone, or intercom signals. High sensitivity and the en- closed ear feature help to block out room noise and ensure clarity of the incoming signal. Spring clips on the self-adjust- ing vertical slides and the free-swiveling action of the cush- ioned earpieces assure user comfort even when the headset is worn for an extended period of time.

An accessory microphone windscreen is provided to protect against wind noise and explosive breath sounds. The head- set is furnished with a detachable cable having two shielded conductors for the balanced-line low-impedance microphone output, and three unshielded conductors for the 2000-ohm earphones.

Renowned for its clarity, accuracy, and comfortable fit, the SM2 is a popular choice for live performances, studio recordings, and personal listening.

One of the standout features of the Shure SM2 is its dual-driver design. This configuration incorporates both a dynamic and a balanced armature driver, allowing for a wide frequency response and detailed sound reproduction. The dynamic driver provides robust low-end response, ensuring that bass notes are powerful and clear, while the balanced armature driver delivers exceptional mid and high frequencies. This combination creates a rich and immersive listening experience that caters to a variety of musical genres.

The SM2 also boasts an ergonomic design that enhances comfort and fit. It comes with multiple ear tips in different sizes, giving users the flexibility to choose the option that best fits their ears. This customizability not only ensures a snug fit but also helps with passive noise isolation, blocking surrounding sounds and allowing users to focus on the audio.

In terms of build quality, the Shure SM2 is constructed to withstand the rigors of professional use. Its robust materials and durable cables ensure that it can handle the demands of touring musicians and audio engineers while maintaining long-lasting performance. The detachable cables add to its versatility, allowing users to replace worn-out cables easily without needing to invest in an entirely new set of monitors.
