PROBLEM

 

PROBABLE CAUSE

Starter Will Not Crank

1. Battery dead.

Engine

2. Blown fuse.

 

3.

Electrical connections loose or corroded.

 

4.

Defective ignition switch.

 

5.

Blade engagement switch in the “ON” position.

 

6.

Motion Control Levers not in neutral lock position.

 

7.

Park brake not engaged.

 

8.

Faulty parking brake, blade or ignition switch.

 

9.

Faulty engine starter.

 

10. Faulty starter solenoid.

Engine Will Crank But

1. Fuel tank empty or fuel shut-off valve closed.

Not Start

2. Engine needs choking.

3.Spark plug wire disconnected.

4.Battery weak or dead.

5.Faulty parking brake, blade or ignition switch.

Engine Will Not Start 1. Blade engagement switch in the “ON” position. Using Recoil Starter 2. Park brake not engaged.

(Applicable models) 3. Motion Control Levers not in neutral lock position.

 

4.

Fuel tank empty or fuel shut-off valve closed.

 

5.

Engine needs choking.

 

6.

Blown Fuse.

Faulty relay switch.

Engine Stalls After

1. Operator not in seat.

2. Engine speed control in the “CHOKE” position.

5.Spark plug defective or gap set improperly.

6.Fuel filter stopped up.

7.Water, debris or stale fuel in fuel system.

Engine Loses Power 1. Excessive load on engine.

2.Engine air pre-cleaner or air cleaner dirty

3.Spark plug faulty.

4.Water, debris or stale fuel in fuel system.

5.Debris build up on engine cooling screen.

Engine Backfires When 1. Throttle control set too “FAST”.

Turned To “STOP”

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1.Service battery.

2.Replace fuse.

3.Clean and check connections for good contact.

4.Contact authorized SNAPPER dealer.

5.Push blade engagement switch in to “OFF”.

6.Lift levers into neutral lock position.

7.Engage park brake.

8.Contact authorized SNAPPER dealer.

9.Replace engine starter.

10.Replace starter solenoid.

1.Fill fuel tank with fresh fuel & open fuel valve.

2.Move choke control to “CHOKE” position.

3.Place spark plug wire onto spark plug.

4.Service battery.

5.Contact authorized SNAPPER dealer.

1.Push blade engagement switch in to “OFF”.

2.Engage park brake.

3.Lift levers into neutral lock position.

4.Fill fuel tank with fresh fuel & open fuel valve.

5.Move choke control to “CHOKE” position.

6.Replace with new 20 AMP fuse.

7.Contact authorized SNAPPER dealer.

8.Contact authorized SNAPPER dealer.

1.Sit in operator’s seat.

2.Move speed control back past “Fast” detent.

3.Fill with fuel to proper level.

4.Clean free of all debris.

5.Service spark plug.

6.Replace fuel filter.

7.Drain and clean fuel system.

1.Lessen load.

2.Clean or replace filters.

3.Service spark plug.

4.Drain and clean fuel system.

5.Clean all debris from engine cooling screen.

1.Set throttle control to “SLOW” and allow engine to idle. Then, turn key to “OFF”.
