THE ARTISAN™ COLOR REFERENCE SYSTEM

ABSOLUTE COLOR CONTROL ABSOLUTELY SONY

The Artisan™ Color Reference System combines Emmy®* award-winning, Sony FD Trinitron® CRT display technology with the state-of-the-art Artisan™ sensor and software for display calibration and profiling.

Designed to meet the color management needs of the creative professional—from graphic designers, architects and animators to image retouchers and photographers—the Artisan™ Color Reference System provides an absolute visual reference: accurate, well-characterized and consistent over time.

Artisan™ Display Features:

Visually flat Trinitron® CRT reduces glare and image distortion.

Aperture Grille technology provides a brighter and sharper display.

Extended dynamic range reaches bright luminance even at D50 setting.

L50 bezel ensures surroundings do not affect color perception.

Artisan™ Software Features:

Measures ambient light conditions to protect color perception integrity.

Saves calibration data and automatically verifies system status.

Toggles between pre-calibrated multiple color spaces with one mouse click.

Allows user to quickly verify that the display is calibrated.

Artisan™ Sensor Features:

Factory-calibrated at white and black for consistent, repeatable contrast ratio.

Thoughtful design for high performance.

Sleek case protects the sensor and manages the cable.

VIEWING ACCURACY AND STABILITY

Provides an accurate, stable display for viewing images and color. The software, sensor and display work together to meticulously adjust the bias and gain of the display. Not only are white and black levels set by adjusting the internal mechanics of the display (not in video LUT), perfectly neutral grays are established, as well.

SETS AND MAINTAINS BLACK

By anchoring the white and black levels of the display, the Artisan™ Color Reference System maintains contrast ratio —a necessity for repeatable color. As long as both displays are calibrated to the same target color space, images will be perceived identically when viewed on two different Sony Artisan™ displays.

EXCELLENT SOFT PROOFING

The Artisan™ sensor is factory-calibrated to the actual red, green and blue phosphors used by the display, therefore data supplied to the display’s ICC profile is extremely accurate— dramatically improving the quality of corresponding soft proofs.

ONE-TOUCH CALIBRATION

The process of setting an accurate and fixed color space— typically a difficult and tedious manual task in other systems—is now completely user-friendly. Calibration is conducted simply and automatically with one mouse click.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

From the easy-grip color calibration sensor and L50 bezel to the integrated hood that blocks glare, the Artisan™ Color Reference System has been thoughtfully designed for the creative professional. It provides consistent calibration to an absolute specification—ensuring the same degree of accuracy for setting white and black luminance with every use.

GDM-C520K specifications

The Sony GDM-C520K is a renowned CRT monitor that debuted in the late 1990s, primarily targeting users in professional settings, including graphic design, photography, and video editing. This CRT display is known for its exceptional image quality and color accuracy, making it a staple in many creative workspaces during its era.

One of the most significant features of the GDM-C520K is its 21-inch screen size, which provides ample real estate for multitasking and detailed work. The monitor boasts a maximum resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, delivering crisp and sharp visuals. Its flat screen design helps to minimize distortion and glare, resulting in a more enjoyable viewing experience.

The GDM-C520K employs advanced Sony technologies, including the Trinitron technology, which utilizes an aperture grille instead of the traditional shadow mask found in most CRTs. This technology not only enhances the monitor's brightness and color richness but also contributes to improved sharpness in images, allowing for more precise details in graphics and photographs.

Another key characteristic of the GDM-C520K is its excellent color reproduction capabilities. It supports a wide color gamut, which is essential for professionals working with color-critical applications. The monitor's color depth typically reaches 24-bit, allowing it to display millions of colors accurately. This makes it an ideal choice for photographers and graphic designers who require precise color matching.

The design of the monitor is ergonomic, featuring adjustable height and tilt, allowing users to customize their viewing angles for enhanced comfort during prolonged use. This is particularly beneficial for artists and designers who spend countless hours in front of their screens.

Moreover, the monitor has multiple input options, including VGA and BNC connectors, providing flexibility for various setups. Its robust build quality ensures durability, making it suitable for intensive daily use.

In summary, the Sony GDM-C520K stands out for its superior image quality, advanced Trinitron technology, and excellent color accuracy. While CRT technology has largely been replaced by LCD and LED displays, the GDM-C520K remains a benchmark for professional monitors of its time, remembered fondly by those who appreciated its performance and reliability in creative fields.
