Holding the chain saw

There are two ways to hold the chain saw during starting.

On the ground

NPlace the chain saw securely on the ground and assume a steady stance – the saw chain must not touch any objects and also must not touch the ground

NWith the left hand on handlebar, press the chain saw firmly against the ground – thumb wrapped around the handlebar

NPlace your right foot through the rear handle

Between the knees or thighs

NClamp the rear handle between the knees or thighs

NGrip the handlebar firmly with the left hand – thumb wrapped around the handlebar

Starting

NWith the right hand, pull the starter grip slowly until you feel it engage – and then give it a brisk strong pull – simultaneously press down on the handlebar – do not pull the starter rope out all the way – risk of breakage! Do not let the starter grip snap back – guide it vertically back into the housing so that the starter rope can rewind properly

With a new engine or after a long period of disuse, it may be necessary to pull the starter rope several times – to prime the fuel line.
