configuretheIPparametersoftheLanScaper™onaspecificLANsegment.WithDHCPOn,the
nexttimethePINGtestisstarted,thetesterwillrequestIPparametersitneedsforLAN
communicationfromaDHCPserveronthatLANsegment.Ifaresponsefromaserverisreceived,
thetesterwillconfigureitselfwiththeacquiredparametersandstarttoPING.NotethattheonlyIP
parameternotreceivedfromthehostistheTargetIPaddress,w
hichisalwaysmanuallyentered.If
noresponseisreceived,thetestercannotdoanyPINGingonthatLAN.Inthatcase,thePING
setupmustbemanuallyentered,andtheDHCPOffstatemustbeselected.ThenextPINGtestwill
thenattempttocommunicatewiththemanuallyenteredparameters.Whenusedasasourcefor
PINGstoanotherLanScaper™intheValidatormode,thePINGGeneratorLanScaper™mustbein
DHCPOff(manual)mode.
Thisisadisplay-onlyofthefactory-setMediaAccessControlnumberforthe
specificLanScaper™unit.AllEthernet-interfaceddevicesmusthaveauniversally-uni
queidentifier
tobeusedastheiraddress.Thisinformationisprovidedasaconveniencetotheuser.
ThisisasimpleselectionmadewiththeSELbuttontochoosewhetherthe
testerdisplaysthecablelengthitmeasuresinfeetormeters.Thelengthconstantisconvertedto
thenewunits.

LanScaper™tryingtostartaPINGconversation.Thisstatusflashesforafewsecondswhilethe
unitsnegotiateanIPaddresstheycanusetoPINGeachother.
InthePINGtestwithDHCPOn,theLanScaper™displaysthismessageonthe
firstlinewhileitistryingtogettherequiredinformationfromaDHCPserver.Thesecondline
displays:
countofDHCPrequestssentout,ifthisnumbercontinuestoincrement,noresponse
isbeingreceived.
Showsforashorttimeaftertheserverrespondstotherequest.
ThetesterissearchingforincomingLinkpulseswhilewaitingtostartanactive

ateLinkmode,theLanScaper™assumesanactive
NICconfiguration,generatingLinkpulsesonthe1-2pair.ThisallowsanotherLanScaper™tobe
connecteddirectlytoit.
StatusdisplayedwhilesearchingforLinkpulsesafteranincomingsignalhasbeen
detected.
