General Troubleshooting

Before calling a service technician, please check this chapter for a possible solution to the problem experienced.

TV will not power ON

Make sure the TV is plugged in to a functioning electrical wall outlet.

Touch the POWER key on the TV touch sensor.

If the TV does not respond, press the POWER button on the remote control.

If the TV still does not respond, refer to the "Remote control problems" section of this troubleshooting document.

If the TV remains unresponsive, unplug it for several seconds, plug it back in, and try powering it ON again.

Remote control problems

Remove all obstructions between the remote control and the TV.

Make sure the remote control batteries are properly installed.

Replace the batteries.

Picture problems

General Picture Problems (No picture, poor picture quality, or color problems)

Make sure a valid input source is selected.

Make sure the signal source (Antenna, Cable, Satellite box, DVD player, etc.) is properly connected to the TV.

Check the picture quality on another channel or input.

Adjust the picture quality using the controls in the

Picture Menu.

No picture on certain inputs

Make sure the input is connected to a source device.

Make sure the input is not LOCKED from the Locks Menu.

If picture problems are not corrected by the above actions, use the "Restore Factory Defaults" procedure in the Setup Menu.

Sound problems

No sound

Make sure a valid input source is selected.

Make sure the signal source (Antenna, Cable, Satellite box, DVD player, etc.) is properly connected to the TV.

Make sure the sound is not muted by touching the VOL key on the TV touch sensor or remote control.

Make sure the MTS feature is set to Stereo or Mono.

If a second audio program is desired, the program sound will not be heard unless the MTS feature is set to SAP.

Distorted sound

Make sure the signal source is properly connected to the TV.

Check sound quality on another channel or input source.

Make sure the MTS feature is not set to SAP unless the second audio program is desired.

If sound problems are not corrected by the above actions, use the "Restore Factory Defaults" procedure in the Setup Menu.

Channel tuning problems

Make sure the TV is set to receive the correct signal source. (Antenna or Cable)

Make sure the channel is not erased from channel memory.

Use the "Restore Factory Defaults" procedure and reprogram the channels.

Closed Caption problems

If a black box with no text is visible on screen, the Closed Caption feature is set to one of the Text modes. Turn the Closed Caption feature OFF or set it to the proper Closed Caption mode. If the program selected does not include Closed Captioning, text will not be displayed.

Restore Factory Defaults

From the Setup Menu select:

Installation> System Status> System Information> Factory Defaults
