WARNING: Failure to follow all Safety Rules and Precautions can result in serious injury.
KNOW YOUR UNIT
SRead your instruction manual carefully until you completely understand and can follow all warnings and safety rules before operat-
ing this attachment.
DRestrict use of this attachment to users who understand and will follow all warnings and safety rules in this manual.
PLAN AHEAD
WARNING: Inspect area before use. Remove all debris and hard objects such as rocks, glass, wire, etc. that can ricochet, be thrown, or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation.
DAlways wear eye protection when operat- ing, servicing, or performing maintenance on this attachment. Wearing eye protection will help to prevent rocks or debris from be- ing blown or ricocheting into eyes and face which can result in blindness and/or seri- ous injury. Eye protection should be
marked Z87.
D Always wear foot protection. Do not go barefoot or wear sandals.
DAlways wear respirator or face mask when
working with unit in dusty environments.
DSecure hair above shoulder length. Secure or remove jewelry, loose clothing, or cloth- ing with loosely hanging straps, ties, tas- sels, etc. They can be caught in moving
parts.
DDo not operate unit when you are tired, ill, upset, or if you are under the influence of al-
cohol, drugs, or medication.
D Keep children, bystanders, and animals away from work area a minimum of 30 feet (10 meters) when starting or operating unit. Do not point blower discharge opening in the direction of people or pets.
FUEL SAFETY (for gas powerheads)
DEliminate all sources of sparks or flame (in- cluding smoking, open flames, or work that can cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is mixed, poured, or stored.
DMix and pour fuel in an outdoor area; store fuel in a cool, dry, well ventilated place; use an approved, marked container for all fuel purposes.
D Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the unit.
DMake sure the attachment is properly as-
sembled and in good operating condition.
DDo not fill fuel tank while engine is running. D Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up fuel spills
before starting engine.
D Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from fuel and fueling site before starting engine.
D Always store gasoline in a container ap- proved for flammable liquids.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY (for electric powerheads)
WARNING: Avoid a dangerous envi- ronment. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not use in rain, in damp or wet locations, or around swimming pools, hot tubs, etc. Do not expose to snow, rain, or water to avoid the pos- sibility of electrical shock. Do not handle exten- sion cord plug or unit with wet hands.
DUse only a voltage supply as shown on the nameplate of the powerhead.
D Avoid dangerous situations. Do not use in presence of flammable liquids or gases to avoid creating a fire or explosion and/or caus- ing damage to unit.
DAvoid dangerous environments. Do not use in unventilated areas or where dust or explo- sive vapors can build up
DTo reduce the risk of electrical shock, use extension cords specifically marked as suitable for outdoor appliances. The elec- trical rating of the cord must not be less than the rating of the unit. The cord must be marked with the suffix “W-A” (in Canada, “W”). Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. Inspect extension cord be- fore use and replace if damaged. An under- sized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. If in doubt, use the next heavi- er gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
DDo not use multiple cords.
DThe powerhead may have a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other); if so, it will require the use of a polarized extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polar- ized extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord will re- quire the use of a polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do not change the equip- ment plug, extension cord receptacle, or extension cord plug in any way.
DDo not attempt to repair unit. Inspect the insu-
lation and connectors on the powerhead and extension cord before each use. If there is any damage, do not use until damage is re- paired by your authorized service dealer.
DDo not pull or carry by cord; do not use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
D Do not use the powerhead if the switch does not turn the unit on and off properly.
