OPERATING POSITION

Cut from your right to your left.
ALWAYSWEAR: Eyeprotection
Longpants
Heavy shoes
WARNING: Alway s wear eye protec-
tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.
Rocksor debris can ricoc het or be thrown into
eyes and face and cause blindness or other
serious injury.
Do not run the engine at a higher speed than
necessary. The cutting line will cut efficiently
when the engine is run at less than full throttle.
Atlow er speeds, there is less engi ne noise and
vibration. The cutting line will last longer and will
be less likely to “weld” onto the spool.
Always release the throttle trigger and allow the
engine to return to idle speed when not cutting.
Tostop engine:
SRelease the throttle trigger.
SPush and hold the STOP switch in the
STOP position until the engine stops.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE

Thetrimmer line will advance approximately 2
inches (5 cm) each time the bottom of the
trimmerhead is tapped on the ground wit h the
enginer unning at full throttle.
Themost effic ient line length is the maximum
lengthallowed by the line limiter.Always k eep
theshield in plac e when the tool is being oper-
ated.
Toadvance line:
SOperate the engine at full throttle.
SHoldthe trimmer head parallel to and above
the grassy area.
STapthe bottom of the trimmer head lightly
on the ground one time. Approximately 2
inches (5 cm) of line will be advanced with
each tap.
Always tap the trimmer head on a grass y
area. Tappingon surfaces such as concrete
or asphalt can cause exces sive wear to the
trimmer head.
If the line is worn down to 2 inches (5 cm) or
less, more t han one tapwill be required to ob-
tain the most efficient line length.
WARNING: Us e only 0.080(2 mm)
diameter line. Other sizes of line will not ad-
vanceproperly and will result in improper cut-
tinghead function or can cause s erious injury.
Do not use other materials such as wire,
string, rope, etc. Wire can break off during
cutting and become a dangerous missile that
can cause serious injury.

CUTTINGMETHODS

WARNING : Use minimum speed
anddo not cr owd the line when cutting around
hardobjec ts (rock, gravel, fence posts, etc.) ,
whichcan damage the tr immer head, become
entangled in the line, or be thrown causing a
serious hazard.
SThetip of the line does the cutting. You will
achieve the best performance and mini-
mumline wear by not c rowding the line into
thecut ting area. The right and wrong ways
are shown below.

SThe line will easily remove grass and
weedsfrom around walls, fences, tr ees and
flower beds, but it also can cut the tender
barkof trees or shrubs and scar fences. To
help avoid damage especially to delicate
vegetation or trees with tender bark,
shorten line to 4--5inches (10 --13cm) and
use at less than full throttle.
SFor trimming or scalping, use less than full
throttle to increase line life and decrease
headw ear,espec ially:
SDuring light duty cutting.
SNear objects around which the line can
wrap such as small posts, trees or fence
wire.
SFormowing or sweeping, use full throttle for
agood c lean job.
TRIMMING --Hold the bot tom of the trimmer
headabout 3 inches (8 c m)abov e theground
andat an angle. Allow only the ti p of the line to
make contact. Do not force trimmer line into
work area.

SCALPING -- The scalping technique re-
moves unwanted vegetationdown to the
ground. Hold the bottom of the trimmer head
about 3 inches (8 cm) above the ground and
atan angle. Allow the tip of the line to st rike the
groundaround trees, posts, monuments ,etc .
This technique increases line wear.
