Wiring

Generator Subwoofer systems present a nominal 4 ohm impedance. Check your amplifier’s owners manual for bridging instructions and impedance restrictions.

Once the system is installed, play a musical selection with an active bass line. Experiment with the subwoofer’s phasing relative to the rest of the system by reversing the input leads on the enclosure (+ to +, and – to –). Listen for the position that yields the best results. To avoid damage to the ampli- fier, turn the system off before making any changes.

Crossover

The best results are obtained with a two-way electronic crossover between the subwoofer amplifier and the satellite speakers. This crossover should not only keep high frequencies from reaching the subwoofers, but just as importantly should keep all low frequencies from reaching the satellite speak- ers. This will allow each speaker to reproduce only the range of frequencies for which it is designed, and will result in a much more natural tonal balance in the system. In such an installation, there will be separate amplifiers or channels for the satellites and the subwoofers.
