Chapter 3: Installation

3. Installation

3.1 Installation Steps

1.Connect the ServSwitch CX or CX Uno to the RJ-45 port on the server access module (SAM).

2.Connect the remaining connectors to a compatible target computer.

3.2 Typical Applications

3.2.1 KV0081A or KV0161A

The SAMs work with the ServSwitch CX Uno, 8-Port (KV0081A), or ServSwitch CX Uno, 16-Port (KV0161A). They provide high- end, multiplatform KVM switching over CATx with remote access. Place the remote console up to 984.3 feet (300 m) away. The ServSwitch supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz (when used at distances less than 328 feet [100 m]), and reads DDC EDID from the display to avoid plug-and-play issues.

The Black Box KV1403A, KV1401A, KV1406A, KV1405A, KV1400A, and KV1404A are a series of advanced KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switches designed to enhance user control over multiple computers through a single console. These products cater to diverse environments such as data centers, server rooms, and workstations, proving essential for IT professionals and system administrators who require efficient multitasking tools.

One of the standout features of the KV1403A and its variants is their capacity to manage between four to sixteen computers from a single KVM switch. This functionality drastically reduces the need for multiple keyboards and monitors, conserving space and simplifying workstation setups. The KV1400A model is specifically noted for its versatility to switch between both local and remote sessions effortlessly.

Another critical aspect is the impressive resolution support. The KV1401A and KV1406A models allow for video resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, ensuring that users experience clear and crisp visuals. This characteristic is particularly important for applications that require high graphical fidelity, such as graphic design and video editing.

The series employs advanced technologies such as USB 2.0 support, allowing for connection to a variety of peripherals including printers and external drives. This connectivity ensures users can maintain functionality across multiple devices without the hassle of constant reconfiguration. Furthermore, the KV1405A includes audio support, enabling the transmission of sound along with video and input signals, an essential feature for multimedia applications.

Security is also a prime concern with these KVM switches. They incorporate layered security features to ensure that unauthorized access is minimized. The models not only have robust physical controls but also support access management protocols that restrict user permissions based on predefined roles.

Compact and durable, the Black Box KVM switches are built to withstand the rigors of daily use in high-demand environments. The user-friendly interface, along with intuitive keyboard shortcuts for switching between systems, enhances overall efficiency.

In conclusion, the Black Box KV1403A, KV1401A, KV1406A, KV1405A, KV1400A, and KV1404A offer a comprehensive solution for managing multiple computers from a centralized console. With features including high-resolution support, USB connectivity, audio integration, and strong security measures, these KVM switches stand out as reliable tools for professionals looking to streamline their operational effectiveness.
