Chapter 4. Preparing the Physical Environment

Chapter Overview

This chapter describes the environmental, power, physical, and space requirements you must meet before you install the 3130. It include installation planning worksheet.

Environmental Requirements

Temperature and Humidity

Table 3 lists the permitted temperature and relative humidity values Operating the 3130 above or below these ranges may result in poor and degraded paper handling.

Altitude Range

The altitude range permitted for 3130 operation is sea level to 21 feet).

Ventilation

The 3130 operates best in an air-conditioned computer room with year humidity control and recirculated, filtered air. Dust and other conta cause machine problems.

To reduce any health risks associated

with

preprinted forms,

follow

forms recommendations and provide appropriate ventilation to the

printer

American

Society

of

Engineer

(ASHRAE) recommends a minimum of 0.42–0.57 metersó/minute

For information about selecting and safely using preprintedIBM forms, ref Advanced Function Printer Cut-Sheet Paper Reference.

Heat and Airflow

Average heat dissipation of the 3130 while printing is less than 930 BTU/hour) based on 1.08kVA for the printer.

No airflow restrictions apply if the 3130 is installed according to floor plans established in this document.
