Chapter 3 Preparing Your Site for Installation

Site Planning

Warning This equipment must be externally grounded using a customer-supplied ground wire before power is applied. Contact the appropriate electrical inspection authority or an electrician if you are uncertain that suitable grounding is available. Statement 366

Warning Blank faceplates and cover panels serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the chassis; they contain electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt other equipment; and they direct the flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system unless all cards, faceplates, front covers, and rear covers are in place.

General Precautions

Observe the following general precautions when using and working with your Cisco ASR1000 Series system.

Keep your system components away from radiators and heat sources and do not block cooling vents.

Do not spill food or liquids on your system components and never operate the product in a wet environment.

Do not push any objects into the openings of your system components. Doing so can cause fire or electric shock by shorting out interior components.

Position system cables and power supply cables carefully. Route system cables and the power supply cable and plug so that they cannot be stepped on or tripped over. Be sure that nothing else rests on your system components’ cables or power cable.

Do not modify power cables or plugs. Consult a licensed electrician or your power company for site modifications. Always follow your local and national wiring rules.

If you turn off your system, wait at least 30 seconds before turning it on again to avoid system component damage.
