DESCRIPTION

Extron’s Digital XPoint Series of digital video matrix switchers is the ideal solution for switching multiple serial digital video signals to multiple digital video devices in video production studios, non-linear editing suites, staging events, and video broadcast studios.

There are two models available in the Digital XPoint line: a four input by four output model (DXP 44 SDI) and a eight input by eight output model (DXP 88 SDI). Each input has an equalized and buffered loop- through, and each output has dual buffered and re-clocked BNC outputs.

The Digital XPoint series conforms to the SMPTE 259M specification. These digital matrix switchers handle all composite (143 and 177 Mbps), component 4:2:2 (270 Mbps), and widescreen 16:9

(360 Mbps) serial standards. Automatic cable equalization typically equalizes greater than 300 meters at 270 Mbps of Extron SHR or equivalent high quality cable.

The Digital XPoint matrix switcher series is housed in a rack mountable, 1U high, 19" wide enclosure. These switchers come standard with a front panel control and are capable of communicating with Extron’s remote keypad (MKP 1000) and/or remote control panel (MCP 1000). Control of the Digital XPoint series from a third party control system can be done via RS-232 or RS-422 using Extron’s Simple Instruction Set (SIS).

FEATURES

Inputs with equalized and buffered loop-throughs

Outputs each with two buffered and re-clocked BNCs

Serial digital data rates from 143 Mbps to 360 Mbps –

Capable of switching 4fsc (composite) or 4:2:2 (component) serial digital video transmission standards.

SMPTE 259M compliant

Automatic input cable equalization – Typically equalizes greater than 300m at 270 Mbps of Extron SHR or equivalent high quality cable.

Digital Sync Validation Processing (DSVP) – When input serial data is locked, the matrix indicates the presence of a carrier source.

Automatic rate selection – Automatically accepts four SMPTE data rates, including 143, 177, 270, and 360 Mbps. The auto mode is ideal for multirate serial data protocols where the matrix automatically detects and locks onto the incoming data signal.

Output data muting when input source is lost – An internal muting function forces the serial data outputs to a static state when input data is not present or not locked.

FEATURES

16 global presets – Frequently-used I/O configurations may be saved and recalled either from the Front Panel Controller or serial control. This time-saving feature allows you to set up I/O configurations and store them in memory for future use.

RS-232 and RS-422 control – Allows for firmware updates and serial control via a third-party control system using Extron’s Simple Instruction Set (SIS)

Simple Instruction Set (SIS) – A set of basic ASCII code commands for serial control. Instead of programming in long, obscure strings of code, SIS makes it easy to program and operate the DXP Series using serial control.

Control Software – Provides a graphical, drag-and-drop interface for I/O configuration and other customization functions via RS-232 and RS-422 remote control. This software also offers an emulation mode for configuration of an offsite matrix switcher; the I/O configuration may be saved for future downloading to the matrix switcher.

MCP 1000 and MKP 1000 control – Optional control panels and keypads provide the flexibility to control a DXP Series matrix switcher from a remote location.

LCD display – Displays current input/output configuration, preset configurations, data rate, and input carrier detect, as well as the status of additional system features.

Extron’s control software – Extron has developed a Windows®- based control software that provides the ability to control every Extron matrix switcher. This program makes input/output configuration and other customization functions simple and convenient because it uses graphic icons.

DXP 44 SDI, DXP 88 SDI specifications

Extron Electronics offers innovative solutions in the realm of audio-visual distribution, and two notable products in their lineup are the DXP 44 SDI and DXP 88 SDI matrix switchers. Designed for professional AV applications, these devices are built to streamline the management of SDI video signals across various sources and destinations, making them essential tools for broadcast, presentation venues, and control rooms.

The DXP 44 SDI is a 4x4 matrix switcher, allowing users to route four SDI sources to four independent outputs. Meanwhile, the DXP 88 SDI extends this capability to an 8x8 configuration, serving up to eight sources and eight outputs. What sets these matrix switchers apart is their ability to handle a range of SDI video formats, supporting SD, HD, and 3G-SDI signals. This flexibility ensures compatibility with a diverse array of equipment and media standards, which is crucial in dynamic AV environments.

One of the standout features of the DXP 44 SDI and DXP 88 SDI is their robust signal management capabilities. Both models utilize Extron's advanced technology to maintain signal integrity, minimizing degradation over long distances. With features like automatic equalization and reclocking, users can be assured of pristine video quality regardless of cable runs.

Additionally, the switchers include an intuitive control interface, making it easy to manage routing configurations. Users can opt for front panel controls, or integrate with third-party control systems, which is highly beneficial for complex setups. The built-in Ethernet control allows for remote management, providing flexibility for technicians operating in a multitude of environments.

Furthermore, Extron’s matrix switchers support audio embedding and de-embedding, ensuring that audio signals can be seamlessly integrated with video transmission. This feature is particularly advantageous for users working with synchronized audio-visual content.

In terms of build quality and design, the DXP 44 SDI and DXP 88 SDI are built to last, with rugged enclosures that can withstand the demands of professional use. They also feature a fan-less design, promoting silent operation which is ideal for environments where noise can be an issue.

In summary, the Extron DXP 44 SDI and DXP 88 SDI matrix switchers represent cutting-edge technology in SDI video management. Their main features, including versatile signal handling, robust control options, and superior audio integration, make them invaluable assets in any professional AV installation.
